Since World War II, the United States military has deployed a significant number of soldiers and Marines to various locations all over the world. One such deployment isOperation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), which took place in 2003-2004. In Cocoa Beach, Florida, Operation Iraqi Freedom resulted in the deployment of more than 1,000 servicemen and women from the United States Marine Corps and U.S. Army to help with the reconstruction process in Iraq. The first military deployment to Cocoa Beach occurred on December 12, 1941 when Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. More than 100 American servicemen were killed in action during World War II; most notably Captain William "Bulldog" Bradley who was killed while leading an attack against Japanese positions at Iwo Jima. The USS Arizona was sunk off Okinawa on February 6th 1945 by a Japankai mine laying vessel after engaging Japanese naval forces hours prior. This event is commonly known as “D-Day” and remains one of America's darkest days ever due to Japan's aggression towards her neighbors and allies alike. During OIF III deployments between October 2003-May 2004 there were 2 Marine Barracks located within walking distance of each other providing housing for up to 600 servicemen/women during their stay here in town including: Camp Pendleton (Marine Barracks #1), Camp Lejeune (Marine Barracks #2) and Fort Pierce Naval Base (#3). Additionally, Navy Pier was utilized as a barracks encampment for enlisted sailors from both branches of service along with officers who came ashore for temporary duty ashore or transit through port cities like Jacksonville or Tampa Bay during their training period before deploying back home to support their unit(s). Barracks Housing Units at USMC Camp Pendleton In order for marines living here on land adjacent to USMCCamp Pendleton Naval Weapons Station (MWSN) they were given barracks units called Hangar AINF-2001 which consisted of 8 habitable rooms with bathrooms inside an outdoor hangar that served as a living area, kitchenette/diner & shower house & two storeys underground garage where troops could park their vehicles while stationed Here.. these units were also connected by underground corridors making it difficult if not impossible for someone low ranking or command staff member trying to get around without being noticed…..USMC Marines living near MWSN got access too this extra Specialty Housing Unit which had 10 huts instead of 8 personal rooms
