Belle Glade, Florida is a small town located in Palm Beach County, Florida. It was founded in 1892 by officers of the Belle Glade Police Department. The departments merger occurred in 1949 and the Belle Glade Police Department became the Belle Glade Police Department. The department currently has six officers; three on duty and three reserve officers. The department’s first gift was a single revolver to Captains John Fenton and Hiram J. Slack, both of whom were then lieutenants with the department. In 1915, Captain Harry Witherspoon presented an automatic rifle to Lieutenants Charles Aiken and Alfred Hines. In 1946, Captain Robert Hite presented an automatic pistol to Lieutenant Donald Sutherlin. From 1951-1974,Captain Edward Klinker presented pistols to Officers William Gwynn and Virgil Barnes (the first black officer on the force). In 1978-1981 Captain Frederick Mims gave two shotguns (one .410 caliber) as gifts to Officers Lamar Hinton and Jameson Purdy Jr.. In 1984, Officer Daryl Wiggs received a service revolver from Sergeant Leroy Daughtry as part of sergeant appreciation program. In 1990-1991 Sergeant Rufus McConnell gave one handgun as a gift to Officer David Kingman during his promotion process. In 1992-1994 Sergeant Vernon LantzPresented two shotguns as gifts to Officers Darrell Easley and Phillip Buttersworth III.. A year later Sgt Dennis Tate gifted one Beretta 9mm Pistol along with training ammunition to Officer Johnnie McGeehan during his probationary period for being new on the force Officer Brian Giles received a police service revolver from Sgt Leroy Daughtry in 1994 as part of sergeant appreciation program .. In 1995 Lt Col Michael White presented an OSS Colt Model 1911 Commander Rifle which he had purchased from Bob Weisman at gun show VIP event at Atlantis Casino Resort Hotel(Pinellas Park FL). That same year Sgt Glenn Irizarry gifted one assault rifle “AR15” chambered in 5 round magazine (.223 Remington)to Officer Joel Martinez who had just been promoted from detective after years of hard work...And finally last but not least Detective Jeffery Weisman recently donated a swiss army knife that belonged to his father Special Agent Jeffrey Weisman who served with distinction with UDT/FBI Miami Division during Operation Neptune Spear

In 1925, the Army constructed Fort Sam Houston at Belle Glade to protect commercial shipping in the river's estuary. The fort was decommissioned in 1970 but has been preserved as part of Belle Glade City Park. Belle Glade is known for its annual Christmas parade that begins at 5 p.m., winding its way through downtown streets ending at the Community Center where refreshments are served. There are also several other events throughout the year such as carnivals and farmer's markets that contribute to the community's festive mood each season. Belle Glade, Florida is an old town in Marion County, Florida. It was founded in 1892 by settlers from Belle Isle on the Stonington River. The population of Belle Glade was 1,521 at the 2000 census. Belle Glade is located near the center of Marion County and is bordered to the east by Lake Okeechobee and to the south by Indian Creek. To the west are Muscogee National Park and Miami-Dade County. The community has a small shopping mall, a post office, and two churches—one Baptist and one Methodist—plus a few businesses. Belle Glade began as a small trading post on the Stonington River where people gathered for fishing, hunting, gathering fruit trees, and selling goods they produced in their homes or businesses. In 1892 developers came to Belle Glade with plans to create a new town on land they had next to Indian Creek Reservoir which would provide water power for mills products such as flour and cotton products. The first settler was JF Young who purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) of land bounded by present day US Highway 82 (now State Road 442), Indian Creek Road/Named bear roads (former US Highway 460), Third Street/Providence Avenue (now US 83), Second Street/Uncle John's Drive (now SR 442) in 1903 from A&P Food Store owner Ira Ebright for $2 per acre ($40 per hectare). This purchase became effective when it was recorded in local deeds book GFS 2nd July 1903 Pg 337 In 1905 developer WJ Fenton subdivided 640 acres into 50 lots which were sold at $50 each with no right of redemption until 1919 when Fenton sold his interest back to Young for $60 per lot plus 10% interest payable annually thereafter while title remained with Fenton’s heirs until 1969 when it passed down through successive families until 1984 when it passed along through my family to its present ownership
Belle Glade was founded on December 4, 1892 by Fayetteville, Arkansas native Belle Boyd. Boyd had married an Englishman, James Gaffney, who had come to Florida in the late 1800s. The couple bought a tract of land near what is now Belle Glade and began to develop it into a village. In 1901, they organized the first town meeting here and named it Belle Glade after their home country. The Gaffneys also ran a general store and post office here for several years before selling the property to A.P. Hill in 1912. In the early 1920s, Hill developed Belle Glade into one of the most affluent communities in South Florida. He built many of its famous homes – including his own Jupiter Golf Club – and spent lavishly on social events and holidays for his community's residents. When World War II began, Hill became deeply involved in military life and left Belle Glade completely behind. However, he never lost touch with his community's people or his love of France – which is why many of Belle Glade's renowned art galleries still stand today (including one dedicated to Vincent van Gogh). Belle Glade eventually grew too prosperous for its once small town feel and succumbed to suburbanization during the 1970s and 1980s; however, much has been preserved since then including several beautiful historic homes like Hill's Jupiter Golf Club that are still used as vacation rentals today.
