The Middletown, Delaware Army Garrison was founded on December 6th 1775 by General George Washington and the Continental Congress. The garrison served as an early military outpost in the area and played a role in the Battle of Trenton which led to the Declaration of Independence. The garrison also fought in the Battle of Princeton which resulted in a British victory. In 1814, the Middletown Army Garrison was disbanded but its spirit continued to live on when it was reactivated as part of the Delaware National Guard in 1939.
Middletown is a town in Kent County, Delaware, United States. The population was 2,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wilmington-Alexandria, DE-MD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Middletown community was established in 1796 as a small trading post on the southern edge of present day Dover Township by settlers from Cherryfield and Milford Township. In 1834, Middletown became an incorporated village when it combined with other nearby settlements to form the new township of Kent. The name "Middletown" derived from its location near the Monongahela River and because of its close proximity to Wilmington and Alexandria, both then part of Delaware. In 1892–93, during construction on Interstate 95 between Philadelphia and Wilmington (the first such project in Delaware), workers discovered coalmines at Middletown Point within sight of Interstate 95's approach. This led to increased traffic along I-95 as miners drove into Middletown for their coal as well as for goods brought back east for sale or trade. As a result of this development, businesses grew quickly around Middletown Point including several restaurants that remain operational today: Horseshoe Casino & Resort (now known as Resorts World casino), Saladin's Grill & Barbecue (now known as Sultan's Bazaar), Quiznos', Chiquita's Pizza Palace (now known as Papa John's Pizza), Dunkin' Donuts,' KFC,' Subway', Torchy's Tacos'. The area around Middletown Point continues to be economically active with manufacturing operations located near Georgetown and Seaford; commercial areas include shopping malls such as Georgetown Mall, Seaford Mall and Dover Downs mall; while agricultural production includes crop farming and petting zoo operations. Tourism has become an important factor in the town’s economy with many visitors coming to see historic buildings like the courthouse or go swimming at nearby Pocomoke Lake State Park. Today’s economy relies heavily upon trucking services which are essential for moving goods throughout Kent County but also provide jobs in local fabrication industries such as car parts making along with tourism related ventures like boat rentals or fishing trips out on the Monongahela River

Middletown is a small, unincorporated community in Sussex County, Delaware, United States. Middletown was established in 1839 as a result of the Federal Land Grant to George Washington Carver. The community was named for Docter Middelton, an early settler. In 1927, Middletown had a population of three hundred. It is now considered an agricultural and rural town with a population of less than fifty residents. The first permanent settler in what is today Middletown was George Washington Carver, who received a land grant from the United States government in 1839. Carver built his home at what is now Route 9 near the present-day intersection of Routes 33 and 9A (now known as Green Road). He also founded what is now Parkers Ferry Landing on the Delaware River opposite where he lived. By 1840, there were twenty-eight settlers living in and around Middletone
Middletown was founded in 1684 by Nicholas Butler. The town's first post office was established in 1701. In 1814, Middletown became the capital of Delaware. In 1868, the state legislature moved from Wilmington to Middletown and the name of the capital changed again to Delaware State Capitol in 1969.
