Dover, Delaware is a city of about 20,000 people located on the Delaware River. The city has been home to a military community since the Revolutionary War. Dover’s history with the military began in 1778 when Patriot forces under the command of Commodore John Graves Simcoe engaged British forces at the Battle of Boylston Heights. The battle was fought between American and British armies and ended in a victory for America. In 1802, Dover became an arsenal town and in 1864 it became its own county. The United States Military Academy at West Point was founded in 1903 in Dover as part of a larger program to educate American officers for service in World War I. In 1924, Dover became an independent municipality and it remains an anchor point for military families today. In World War II, Dover was one of the most heavily bombed areas of the United States. More than 120% of all bombing raids that took place within 1 mile (1 kilometer) of downtown were conducted by Allied forces during World War II. Over 10,000 homes were destroyed or damaged in concentration bombing raids that took place throughout Dover during World War II. Many residents who survived these bombings are still living here today and continue to contribute to local economy through their businesses and services. Today, there are three active duty branches within the Delaware Army National Guard: The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Heavy Armor), and 501st Infantry Regiment (Paratroopers). There are also several reserve units stationed here including: 2nd Battalion Delaware State Guardsmen, 3rd Battalion Delaware State Guardsmen, 4th Battalion Delaware State Guardsmen (Heavy Weapons), 5th Battalion Delaware State Guardsmen (Airmanship), 6th Battalion Delaware State Guardsmen (Engineering Support), 7th battalion Delaware State Guardsman (Materiel & Logistics Support), 8th battalion DelawareState Guardsman-Firearms/EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENTS TEAMS 2-4&5-6; 9th Squadron Air National Guard's 194TH Fighter Wing; 15 Marine Aircraft Group Headquarters Unit; 16 Naval Surface Warfare Center Facility New London – DEWEY AIR FORCE BASE During World War II, two large airfields located near Dover were used extensively by both American and RAF Bomber aircraft operating from RAF St Mawes Island airfield which had two parallel runways measuring 1,500 feet long each while RAF North Weald airfield had one runway measuring 350 feet long with no buildings on either side! Both airfields were designated "No Man's Land" meaning that combatants could not land or take off without prior warning! During daylight operations RAF bombers would fly over No Man's Land dropping fuel drop tanks along its length allowing fighter escorts to intercept any allied planes attempting to cross into England! On nights when visibility was low RAF bombers would pull back before landfall so as not to increase risk to allied troops bunkered down inside No Man's Land! The first civilian airport built specifically for aviation purposes opened up just outside of Wilmington MA on December 12 1920 named Philadelphia International Airport after then mayor James Auchincloss who donated $25 000 towards its construction! This airport served much less purpose than what we know it now as it only handled small numbers of flights compared to modern airports like Newark Liberty International Airport which opened up just north of town years later! That same year Philadelphia International Airport morphed into Municipal Airlines which operated out west until 1958 when they merged with US Airways ! From Municipal Airlines until 1953 Continental Airlines operated out east whileContinental Airlines merged with US Airways effective March 17 1953 forming JetBlue Airways ! At this time all cities within flying distance got their own commercial airline - thus Philly international airport closedown leaving Wilmington as the lone major center left open for aviation !! On July 11 1954 Departure Control at Philadelphia International Airport received Notice from Washington D C requesting that all outgoing passengers present their passports for inspection!. This request followed reports emanating from CIA headquarters indicating that certain individuals associated with McCarthyism had become known among intelligence officials as "enemies within". Upon inspection passports found no evidence connecting any passengers discovered hitherto unknown persons or activities aboard any departing airplane!!! Shortly thereafter Dulles Intl Airport reopened following extensive renovations which included installation of metal detectors gates surrounding all terminals!! These days security measures have greatly increased following terrorist threats against both airports!!

In 1951–1952, the Town got its first sprinkler system which helped prevent water damage during heavy rains like those that hit much of southeastern Pennsylvania during that time period; otherwise known as "the good old days." In 1978-1979 an addition were made to the main building making room for an additional 4 acres (1 km2) - increasing town size by over 50%. In 2007-2008 more than $500K was spent on renovations/updates including sound proofing all hallways for future expansion; installation of new roofs; replacement/updatingof everything inside Municipal Building (except windows); painting/grouting; resurfacing streets pavements; streetlights etc.; this also included adding sidewalks extending from Main Street into each side road

Dover, Delaware is a town in Kent County, Delaware, United States. The population was 3,611 at the 2010 census. Dover was first settled by English colonists in 1682 and became a part of the British Empire after its independence from Great Britain. The town's current form was created after the merging of two other towns: Dover Township (established 1801) and Dover Rural (organized 1875). Dover has been known for its white-bread breads and other goods since Colonial times. It became an important seaport on the Delaware River due to its location downstream from Philadelphia and its access to shipping lanes. In 1764, General George Washington visited Dover while campaigning against the Pennsylvania Line during his aborted attempt to cross the river at Trenton. The town's rich colonial history began with Captain John Smith's landing in 1682 on what is now called plunger island as he explored what would become Delaware Bay. The English referred to this area as "Dover Isle". On July 4, 1764, General Washington issued orders calling for all American forces converging on Trenton in preparation for his intended crossing of the Delaware River at that point south of present-day Wilmington. After spending several days conferring with his commanders about strategy there instead landed 1,500 militiamen and marines under Commodore Nicholas Vannasse at plunger island where they built their fortifications including a stockade around an artificial hill which served as their flagstaff or masthead lookout tower overlooking Trenton harbor. As word spread through America of General Washington's intentions locals came out in droves to see him off including many women who baked him white bread as he sailed away upstream downriver into Pennsylvania territory under cover of darkness! The resulting notoriety led to increasing trade between American colonists along the lower Delaware River valley and those living along Philadelphia's Upper East Side - what would eventually become known as "the cultural center of America" - which helped support growth in both communities over time. In 1801 Dover Township was organized when part of Kent County following statehood within the United States following the Louisiana Purchase by President James Kettledore Johnson III pursuant to Act No 10of February 12th 1803 despite objections from neighboring Sussex County who feared loss of valuable land should it be annexed onto their county seat thereby disrupting county government structure; however local resistance soon melted away once township officials demonstrated their commitment to providing good quality public education,, fire protection and general welfare services within limits set forth by legislation prior thereto not exceeding $200 per annum annually funded by assessment levied upon respective landowners therein according to surface value thereof real or personal property apportioned thereto rendering said township one unit politicly equal with each parish therein composing said county having perpetual succession unto every superior power vested therein without any discrimination hereinunto founded; such zoning ordinance being made necessary because no person could build any house worth more than $5 without consent from either party owning said land subjecting same immediately thereafter taing over by both parties whenever property values increased above aforesaid limit; notwithstanding actual purchases hereafter made by residents hereunder without prior written agreement or licenses obtained thereby involving structures measuring 100 feet square or less having value over $5K only
