The Dover, Delaware Army was organized in 1784. The first unit to serve in the area was the 1st Regiment of Militia which arrived in 1785. The regiment served until 1788 when it withdrew to New York for reorganization. In 1792, the regiment re-assembled at Dover and deployed to Pennsylvania to help organize the state militia. After serving for two years, the regiment returned home and disbanded in 1800. In 1802, a new regiment was formed at Dover and deployed to Louisiana as part of President James K. Polk's army during the Mexican-American War. The 1st Regiment of Militia fought in three battles: Alamo Heights, Monterrey and Chapultepec where they lost 54 men killed or mortally wounded. During this time period, also called "the war of 1812", the 1st Regiment also became known as Companies A through G due to their deployment with Captain John Dutton's Company H (later renamed G) during that conflict. In 1814, after being mustered out of service from Louisiana, Company G returned home and disbanded again at Dover while Captain Dutton continued serving as an officer in the military until his death in 1830. Company I (later renamed C) was reactivated on September 15th 1861 at Dover when 10 recruits arrived from Wilmington Delaware under Captains John Jernigan and George Weems who had both been mustered into service only days before with Company F (now E) which had also been mobilized only a few weeks earlier by Commodore Alfred Thayer Mahan Jr.. On October 11th 1861 C sailed for Mobile Bay aboard USS Constitution where they disembarked on November 2nd 1861 after a six month journey including stops at Havana Cuba, Pensacola Florida then Baton Rouge Louisiana before finally arriving back at Portsmouth Virginia on January 14th 1862 just one day shy of nine months since their activation! They were now one of seven companies fielded by General Robert E Lee along with units from Richmond Virginia; Petersburg Virginia; Fredericksburg Virginia; Washington D.; Baltimore Maryland; Fortress Monroe VA; Norfolk Va; etc., all under Confederate command! Each company numbered between 75-100 men however there were some variations such as Companies A(75), B(76), C(77), D(78), etc... each commanders commanding post having only four officers instead of five like most armies did back then! It is interesting to note that detachments existed within these companies such as Company H which served detached primarily along coastal areas near Hampton RoadsVirginia while other units patrolled interior waterways providing security for shipping long distances! These deployments gave rise to another term coined "The Army Of Old Dominion" because many soldiers had originally belonged to forces stationed outside Southern states such as Georgia Alabama Mississippi Arkansas Tennessee North Carolina South Carolina Georgia!! Dover, Delaware is a town in Kent County, Delaware, United States. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. Dover is located on the Eastern Shore of Delaware and is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. It is bordered by the boroughs of Easton and Lancaster to the north, New Castle to the east, Lewes to the south and Townsend to the west. The first settlers in Dover were Quakers from nearby Wilmington who built their homes near what is now North Beach Avenue between 1795 and 1800. In 1806, General John Forbes laid out a road from Fort Indiantown Gap in Pennsylvania through Dover intoSussex County for use by horse-drawn wagoners as they passed through Delaware on their way to Cherry Hill in Pennsylvania. This road became known as "the Forbes Road." In 1814, General James Ketchum laid out a street plan for Dover which included two streets descending toward what are now Market Street and Father Mather Boulevard (now Academy Boulevard). These streets became Main Street and Constitution Avenue respectively. In 1840, Dover was incorporated as a town under state law with a population of 350 residents; it had no mayor or councilman. The first white settler in Dover was Nathan Beevor who arrived with his family from Boston on November 15th of that year aboard an American brigantine called "Nancy". Beevor worked as an overseer on Long Island's largest estate until he discovered land comprising present-day Dover Township when he went hunting along its coast during a trip made by his brother-in-law Colonel George Washington Denny on October 10th of that year; this led him to purchase 1 acre (0 hectares) overlooking present day Market Street from Samuel Noyes for $2 per acre (1 per hectare). On February 16th of that year - three days after American independence - Nathaniel Beevor erected upon this property his first home which he named "Moses", after one of his ancestors who had come over with British troops at Botetourt Point on May 14th of that same year; this house still stands today within view ofpresent day Constitution Avenue just east of where Main Street meets Alumni Drive/Ivy Lane./ /Dover also has its own small mall within walking distance (/nearby shopping centers include: Northeast Shopping Center (), King's Lynn Mall (), Olde Towne Mall ()], currently being developed into an interactive entertainment district anchored by Regal Cinemas (). By 1870 – less than five years later – Overstreet & Co., merchants operating at various locations throughout Sussex County including Newark (then partof Sussex County), had opened up shop in what would become fronting onto First National Bank Building south side Main Street next doorto Drury Wheelwright’s store providing general merchandise thruout mainlandDelaware including items such as saddles, horseshoes, wagons etc.; business activities continued here thru 1920>. This period can be seen marked by both commercialism (+ many stores remained open even during prohibition era) as well as increased socializing among early pioneers due largely to lack thereof elsewhereabouts/. By 1930 – more than 25 years later – most businesses having closed down either because demand dwindled or competition came too strong (& some remain openToday); however Drury Wheelwright Store still functions prominently within immediate vicinity via second story balcony providing goods ALWAYS fresh & variously themed gifts such as chocolates/, jewelry/, hats etc.; during prohibition era front window achieved notoriety due numerous violations resulting in numerous citations ($100 fine each time!).
