By 1870, several thousand people lived within what is now Waterbury Township;[2] however, only 5% were employed directly in agriculture while 95% were engaged in some other type of businesses or services related to food production or transportation.[3][4] One result of this large influx was that many residents did not have access to quality public water until after World War II when municipal works began around town pumping groundwater from local hillsides under pressure from Prospect Hill Reservoir (now part of Point Lookout State Park).[5][6] With rapid population growth throughout much ofHartford County between 1950 and 2000,[7], private wells became available for those looking for more efficient disposal than governmentala water treatment plants could provide; leading to increased wastewater discharge into nearby rivers and wetlands,[8][9] which have resulted in various problems with erosion along both river banks and overloading creeks due to high levels of phosphorus (a pollutant found especially at low depths), sedimentation, bloating bass populations (due to their diet caused by high levels fecal coliform bacteria) – as well as occasional reports Of toxic fish swimming near surface waters where juveniles had collected during spawning season.
