Fresh roasted coffee beans are a centuries old tradition in the city of Waterbury, Connecticut. The Beans Café on Main Street first offered ground coffee in 1912. In 1930, the company opened its first roast house which continues to produce high-quality coffee today. Fresh roasted beans are hand-selected for their flavor and aroma by our team of roasters. Waterbury is home to two of the largest roasting companies in the United States – Peet’s Coffee and Newman’s Own (NOV). Through these businesses, we continue to produce some of the world’s best fresh roasted coffee. Our beans are shipped direct from our roast houses all over North America and Europe. Waterbury is one of the oldest cities in Connecticut. It was founded in 1664 by Puritans who were looking for a new home after fleeing religious persecution in Europe. The city grew rapidly and soon became a major center for trade and commerce. In 1814, Waterbury added its own independent government, becoming the first municipality in Connecticut. The city continued to grow and become known for its quality of life and its many cultural attractions, including the Waterbury Fairground which is still operational today.
Waterbury is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 25,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Hartford metropolitan area. Waterbury is bordered by Norwich to the north, East Hartford to the east, Willington to the south and West Hartford to the west. The first permanent settler in what would become Waterbury was Nicholas Bache in 1639. Other early settlers were Peter Wooster and his family who came from Ipswich, Massachusetts in 1641-42; John Winthrop and his brother Increase in 1644; Nathaniel Eaton in 1645; Joshua Eldredge in 1648; Ebenezer Putnam in 1650-51; Rev. Jonas Greenleaf (1659-1728) who organized Congregational churches there in 1702; Elijah Poore (c 1724-1808) who built a gristmill on the confluence of Thames and North Rivers which still stands today and operated it until 1814 when it was destroyed by a fire. The first school was built as an academy on Meetinghouse Hill (now State Street) around 1792. Settlers also started up small businesses such as tanning hides and brewing beer but these did not survive into modern times. The late 19th century saw an increase downtown with its several shops including Wetherspoons pub where alcoholic drinks were served until 1975 There also became an nightlife with bars like The Source open until 2am until recently or later numerous pubs that serve food during lunchtime before closing for dinner starting about 1pm most weeks

These beans were then brought to Arabia where they were roasted and sold as coffee. The Arabs also brewed their own coffee, which was a very different flavor than what we enjoy today. In 1605, Dutch traders arrived in India and noticed that Arabic-speaking nobles were drinking a lot of coffee. They began to roast their own beans and sell them back to the Indian nobility. This started the coffee trade that we know today! Coffee was originally ground into small doses so it could be stored easily, which is why it takes so long to get fresh roasted beans!

Waterbury is part of the New Britain–Hartford–West Haven Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent English settlement in what would become Waterbury was made on May 10, 1623 by Capt. John Smith and his party from Plymouth Colony when they invaded the town of Milford to search for a new landbase for their colony. The first courthouse in Waterbury was built in 1763. It burned down in 1812 but was rebuilt and enlarged several times until it became the current building on Main Street in 1868. The original free black community of African Americans that developed along Main Street between 1837 and 1861 were forced out by white mobs after storekeepers refused to sell them goods because they were not "white." Waterbury is located at 38°24'N 73°15'W (38.8609 N / 73.2185 W). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 20 square miles (50 km²), all of it land
Waterbury's first settlement took place in 1764. The town was originally named for the then-undeveloped river, Waterbury Creek. In 1822, it became a part of Hartford County and was renamed Waterbury City. On May 24, 1838, the town adopted a new charter which made it an incorporated city with four wards. The city boundaries were amended on November 15, 1958 to include the eastern portion of West Hartford.
