The marines have been deployed in various places around the world for more than 140 years. Today, they are still a part of our society and culture. Marines have fought in many wars and campaigns, both during World War I and II. The town developed quickly and soon had a population of around 200 people. Nicholson erected a courthouse and several homes in 1804. In 1836, the town was renamed after General Samuel Torrington - an American Revolutionary War hero who served under George Washington - in tribute to his memory. In 1840,Torrington became an incorporated village with a population of 300 people. It remained an unincorporated community until 1955 when it became part of the city of Hartford. Today, Torrington has a population over 10,000 people and is one of the most diversified communities in Connecticut with many different businesses and cultural attractions.

The town of Torrington was founded in 1665 by the grants of land to three religious families. The first settlers were farmers and traders who came from the towns of Suffield, Hartford, and Wethersfield. The town was named after John Torrington, a member of the Congregational Church in New Haven. By 1800, the population had grown to over 1,500 residents. In 1814, the Connecticut General Assembly passed an act authorizing the erection of a school district in Torrington. On December 12th of that year, the first school building was built on what is now Main Street. The second school building was built in 1825 and still stands today. In 1827, there was a fire that destroyed most of downtown Torrington. Despite this tragedy, business continued to grow as people moved into new homes and businesses started up around town. By 1850, Torrington had become an established community with its own government and courts system. It also became home to one of America's first woolen mills which produced cloth for export. In 1907-1908, during World War I,Torrington played a significant role in supporting the war effort by providing materials such as food and clothing to soldiers stationed overseas. After hostilities ended in 1918, many businesses closed down due to economic recession; however, some reopened shortly afterwards thanks to new entrepreneurs who had returned home from war service or were starting their own businesses anew. Since thenhas been a vibrant community characterized primarily by its strong social ties - both local and international - through churches (including both Protestant denominations), organizations such as Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), Rotary Clubs (which have since morphed into professional organizations), along with numerous private clubs and associations spanning all walks of life that unite for common interests including dance recitals at Bemis Park on Saturdays evening preceded by refreshments served outdoors under lighted coverings on October 6th each year; "the Festival" typically features live music from 2-6pm while Vendors set up shop at various locations throughout downtown before departing for good at approximately 10pm each night; cultural events include art exhibits featuring local artists every other week during summer months; annual Halloween parade complete with trick or treating taken place near courthouse square between 5pm-8am followed by an event honoring elementary/secondary students' hard work costumes several hours later culminating with a Masquerade Ball at 11pm

Today, Torrington is a small town with a population of around 500 residents which enjoys some degree of autonomy from Hartford County government.
