The Marine Corps has a long history in Shelton, Connecticut. The Marines first arrived in the town in 1866 as part of the U.S. Cavalry. After World War II, they were quartered at the Army's Fort Lincoln until 1951 when they moved to their present location on Green Street. In 1967, the marines hosted their first international event at Fort Lincoln and since then have been hosting small events throughout Connecticut and more recently Maine. In 1969, Shelton became one of the first towns in America to recognize marine corps badges as a form of identification for its citizens. Since then, marines from all over Connecticut have worn badges as a sign of respect and patriotism. Many residents have also given back to the marines by volunteering their time or money to help with various activities and projects inside and outside of fort Lincoln including building barracks for new recruits, painting guard towers, erecting gates around the fort gates and more!

Shelton, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 12,748 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality in Hartford County and the second largest municipality in Connecticut after Bridgeport. The town is bordered by New Haven to the north, West Hartford to the east, Watertown to the south and west, and Stratford to the northwest. Shelton is named for Benjamin Shelton who settled there in 1788. The first European settler in Shelton was John Healey who arrived from England on October 12, 1786. A group of ten men from Northampton Township founded Healey's Ferry on what is now Quogue Road on December 4th of that year. On January 1st of 1801 they sold their ferry land to Increase Mann of Saybrook for $2 per acre (the sale price remains an issue today). On February 10th of that year £30 was raised by Samuel Morse and others at a meeting held at Healey's Ferry for erecting a public house on Main Street where it still stands today as the Town Hall building; this was also followed up with a canal project which never came to fruition due to financial difficulties but did leave behind some important evidence about early American life and culture including two large brick spirit molds found near present day Union Chapel (now home to EastConn Charter Schools). The first settlers were not welcomed by local Native Americans who referred to them as "the white people" or "the Canaries." In 1815 Eastern Resident James Fenton wrote: "There are few [native] males left hereabouts but all our women have long since emigrated or died away... We had no intercourse whatever with these Indians now living." In 1816 Nathaniel King built him home called Greek Hill which stands today on what is now Elmwood Avenue between Center Street and Morris Road just east of present day Quogue Hills Elementary School; he soon after moved his family into his farmstead which consisted of six houses: five upstairs and one downstairs. Some believe King may have been inspired by George Washington's Mount Vernon when he started construction on his homebuyer’s paradise-style estate which later became known as Greek Hill Village (today part of Bolton Landing Shopping Center). After only eleven months living there he sold it back to Nathaniel King Jr., giving him sole rights over its development until 1830 when it reverted back into private hands again reaching its current form as Greek Hill Village again under Mr. King’s son Nathanial Kircher in 1835-36… This event provides us with a perfect example how community involvement can speed up development when compared against individual initiatives." Accordingly, thanks largely in part to Samuel Morse’s donation of $50 towards founding Congregational Church #1 – located on what is now State Street between Elmwood Avenue and Morris Road – Congregationalist services began service within two weeks following their arrival while other Protestant denominations took longer times before establishing themselves such as Presbyterians whose services were held at First Congregational Church across Broadway from where Chatham High School currently stands today before moving inside into new facilities around 1830 mentioned earlier along with Baptists being established during this same time period although their earliest records do not survive intact

Shelton, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 12,857 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Haven–Hartford–Bridgeport metropolitan area. The town was first settled by English colonists in 1664 as Newtowne on the west side of the Hartford River. In 1784 it became Shelton when its original proprietors, Sir John Shelton and his wife Endymion Henshawe sold their holdings to Colonel John Trumbull. The towns name may be derived from "Shaletown" (now a village in Manchester, England) where Trumbull had been born and raised. At various times during its history Shelton has been spelled Sheltontown or Sheltontowne; finally it was changed to Shelton in 1892 when railroad developers moved into the community and desired to make it easier for people to find their place of residence on maps. In 1814 the towns two schools were founded; one for boys and one for girls. A year later a gristmill was built and began operations which would remain in operation until 1938; also during this time a post office was established with mail service taking about six weeks between Newtowne and Hartford daily. In 1870 2 sawmills were built within three years of each other across both Town lines making Shelton an important center for woollen production; these mills continued operation until they were shut down around 1960 due to competition from abroad. A store opened in 1907 which eventually closed down around 1970 due largely to technological advances being made at that time that diminished demand for woolen products domestically while increasing demand internationally For many years there have been no grocery stores or IGA's located within walking distance of most residents so that laundry must be done out-of-town or by visiting local stores several days per week during peak shopping periods like Christmas & Easter/Halloween). Today nearly all except low income residents rely on either public transportation or taking nearby streetscar services (Route 9A) into Hartford every day which can take anywhere from 15 minutes up to two hours depending on traffic congestion nears & far away locations like Stamford & Bridgeport downtown areas
Shelton is a small town in the Connecticut Valley, located about 26 miles (41 km) east of Hartford. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Haven–Hartford–Bridgeport metropolitan area. The first settler in Shelton was James Aiken who arrived in 1786. He founded a mill on the Una River and named it Aiken's Falls after himself and his wife Anna. In 1807, John Stephenson settled here with his family and named it Stevenson's Mill after himself. The first store opened in Shelton in 1813 by Joshua Tilton under the name of "Garrison's Store." In 1824, Gideon Granger built a gristmill on the White River near present-day North Central High School; this mill became known as Granger's Bridgemill after him. In 1825, Judge Isaac Trumbull moved to Shelton from Waterbury to become justice of the peace for this area; he later served as governor of Connecticut twice. He donated land to build Trinity Episcopal Church which now stands adjacent to North Central High School. In 1886, David Brewster bought 780 acres (300 ha) around present-day North Central High School from Samuel Hallett for $5,000; this land became known as Brewster Park. In 1893, Rudolph Berger started an ice cream parlor here which still stands today called Berger's Creamery & Ice Cream Parlor which served customers until 1975 when it closed down due to high competition from other stores in that era.
