The history of the gun store goes back to 1892 when George Cushing opened the Shelton Gun Shop on Main Street in Shelton. At that time the shop was the only one in town and it offeredGun Sales and Rentals services as well as Gunsmithing services. In 1916 G H Bowers bought the store from George Cushing and changed its name to The G H Bowers Gun Store Ltd. which lasted until 1978 when it was sold to R W Goodrich & Sons Incorporated who renamed it The R W Goodrich Gun Store Ltd. In 1984 the store underwent a significant renovation which included new flooring, new guns section, extensive stock changes including new revolvers (the first handgun purchase at The G H Bowers Gun Store), extensive alterations to Firearms Repair Services as well as alterations toammunition sales area which doubled as an individual shooting range. Today, The G H Bowers Gun Store Ltd., still operates under its original name with additional retail space located at 203 Main Street in Shelton opposite JCPenney

Shelton, Connecticut is a small town in central Connecticut. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous town in eastern Connecticut and the most populous town east of New York City. Shelton is located on the southern edge of Hartford County and its ZIP code is 06303. The first European settlers in what is now Shelton were Dutch converts to English who arrived around 1641. The original name for the town was "Wenham". In 1785, when it was part of Springfield Township, Shelton had a population of 350 people. By 1830, Shelton's population had grown to 1,000 people and by 1840 it had reached 2,500 people. In 1868, when Hartford County became an independent state and Shelton became part of Watertown Township within that county, its population increased to 10,000 residents. However, by 1870-71 its population had decreased to 7200 residents as new towns were established within Hartford County: Enfield (1871), Danbury (1872), Westport (1873), North Branford (1874), Newtown (1875), East Haven (1876) and Southold (1877). In 1907-08 there was a large increase in migration from eastern Connecticut because of new opportunities in Bridgeport and other nearby cities which were opening up during that time period as result of industrialization throughout America. At this time more than half the town's resident lived outside the incorporated limits; 62% resided outside of Watertown Township while only 27% resided within that township Limits frame limit at any given time during 1907-2008. One major development that occurred during this time period was construction on Interstate 95 which passed through town center along Main Street which created significant traffic congestion on Routes 12A/12B/15A which crossed Route 95 near downtown Sheltonshire Center where I-95 intersected with Route 12A about two blocks south of Broadway Boulevard intersection; one could also see I-95 coming into view shortly before it intersected with Route 95 northeast cornering Main Street just shy of Shelton Road intersection creating what are now known as "I-95 Narrows" or "Netherlands River Parkway". Additionally there was much construction taking place along US Highway 6 including establishments such as Sears Roebuck & Company from Pequotville northward across Main Street past Sheltonshire Center until reaching I-84 westbound about two miles south near Exit 8 off Interstate 95About midway between exits for both I-84 and I-95Netherlands River Parkway., numerous gas stations opened up along Rt 6 making travel times longer then necessary especially if traveling outbound against traffic heading east towards Milford orEast Haven Being an incorporated municipality since 1868 with over 11 thousand residents situated close together formed an extremely dense community characterized by high levels of social interaction due largely to open space available surrounding them however some aspects have changed including crime rates although they have slowly been decreasing over recent years

Shelton is a town in western Connecticut, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It lies on the edge of the White Mountains and is one of the most isolated towns in America. The name Shelton comes from "Shelter," meaning to provide or protect from harm or danger. The first settler in what is now Shelton was James Hough, who arrived in 1636 and built a cabin on the west side of Route 6. In 1739, Increase Mather purchased land east of present day Shelton from Nicholas Winnicott. In 1763, John Pritchard bought land west of present day Shelton from Nicholas Winnicott and laid out a township which became Shelton Township on March 3, 1764. On December 7, 1802, the town was incorporated as part of Greenfield Village by act of the Connecticut General Assembly. In 1834, when Greenfield Village merged with other townships to form Fairfield County, Shelton became part of that county as well. Heading into World War I (1914-18), local farmers formed volunteer militias called "The Pioneers" to resist German occupation; these men helped fight in many battles including Bloody Sunday near Watertown (now Hartford). During World War II (1941-1945), production at two American munitions plants located in neighboring towns resulted in an increase in air pollution that reached Shelton during 1945; this led to calls for action by residents to clean up their neighborhoods until such time as there would be no more emissions from factories downtown. Today's economy largely depends upon agriculture and tourism; although much progress has been made since then against some key challenges--such as increasing crime rates--shelTON remains one of America's most isolated small municipalities
Shelton was founded in 1784 as a village by Quakers. It became a town in 1837, and then Shelton Village in 1935. The present-day town of Shelton was formed from the merger of both villages on December 1, 1959.
