By 1869, The Dutchman's had become one ofNorwalk's most well known businesses with over 100 employees working at its location on Broadway Avenue near State Street. In 1896,The Dutchman's closed its doors for good after more than 150 years in business. However, it reopened under new ownership several months later and continued serving delicious coffee until 1971 when it closed again due to declining sales. Some of the earliest notable roasters associated with The Dutchman's include Harry Baca (1892), Charles Schultz (1912), Julius Erlich (1921) and Milton Bradley (1927). After closure, many of these roasters relocated their operations to other locations throughout Connecticut while others continued serving delicious cups of coffee until they were bought out by Starbucks in 2002().
