The first coast guard gift was given in 1887 when Captain John F. Costello of the New London Yacht and Boating Club gave a set of anchors to Captain George W. Smith, then the Coast Guard's first commanding officer. The gifts were continued each year until 1920 when an anchor was given to Captain Arthur A. Lovett, Jr., who became Coast Guard Chief of Staff in 1933. In 1939, a lifeboat was bestowed upon Captains John J. Phelan and Raymond Larkin as part of Coast Guard's Centennial Jubilee Celebration. In 1966, Commodore Edward Glessner, Commandant-in-Chief of the Connecticut National Guard presented a lifeboat with a galley that could hold up to twelve people to Captains Clifford Ransom and Donald Creyton in recognition for their heroism during the 1968 Summer Olympicsborder disputes offshore in Block Island Sound). In 1974, Deputy Commandant James Pappas presented the first helicopter lift that could take vessels into or out of harbor to allow for more efficient traffic control at night; this gift was also commemorated by presenting a helicopter hangar at the Coast Guard Station Norwich on July 5th, 1975 which still stands today (it is now used as the Department's aviation training facility). When Commodore Darrell Ketchum assumed command from Commodore Edward Glessner in 1987 he began making annual donations of new boats both patrol and fisheries based including three "Lincoln Cutters". These boats are now known as research vessels due their significant resources developed for scientific research aboard these vessels including sonar surveys and acoustic monitoring along Connecticut coastline. Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 1992 Commodore Ketchum delivered his final gift - a state-of-the art catamaran called "Nemo" which can accommodate up to sixty passengers with room aft for berth space and storage capacity for additional gear necessary for long range patrols or coastal surveillance missions off Connecticut shorelines

New London is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 34,711 at the 2010 census. The name was first given to the town by its founders in 1795 as part of a land grant toSir John Winthrop. The town developed around the New London Custom House which was built in 1798 and served as the capital of Connecticut from 1800 to 1837. New London became an incorporated city on April 12, 1837 and again on December 15, 1957. On November 14, 2009, Mayor Richard M. Daley announced that New London would become the 51st municipality in Connecticut to adopt a resolution recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital. The townsite that now makes up New London was first settled by English colonists who arrived during what is known as King George's War (1744-47). In 1795 they received a land grant from Governor William Tryon giving them 5 square miles (12 km²) of land for each man and woman over the age of 16 living within 100 miles (160 km²). This gift included about half of what is now Hartford County. The original settlers were made up primarily of farmers who did not have any experience with building anything more than their homeslogs or hogsheads of water from their individual properties. The custom house which served as the new center for government for Connecticut until 1837 was built on what is now State Street just east of downtown New London. It took years for this large structure to be constructed and it remains one of only two buildings remaining from when Connecticut had its own capital city before statehood in 1837: the other being Poultney Hall located in Springfield, Massachusetts which also served as both federal courthouse and home to several governors during that time period including John Quincy Adams while he served President James Kieft’s administration between 1829-1830; later it became home to Springfield’s first high school before becoming abandoned due largely to fire damage caused by arsonists in 1903 according to documents filed withthe ULC records office; shortly afterwards it caught on fire once again but this time due solely to sparkplug ignition equipment used by electricians working on replacing old wire inside; fortunately no one was injured and all property damage ceased after just minutes long exposure As new settlements were founded throughout westernHartfordshire following King George's War many similar names were given including Northampton (founded 1798), West Haven (founded 1800), East Haven (born 1802), Bethel (founded 1803), Groton(founded 1830), Norwalk(established 1865) etc… However, because there were few if any similarities between these settlements and those near present day Hartford – apart from small amounts of outdoor space – official incorporation into a larger community wasn’t contemplated until much later when growth necessitated it In early 1800’s Reverend Ezra Stiles founded Holy Cross Parish Church at corner where Main Street & State Street met with his efforts having failed otherwise since economic downturn had destroyed most Congregational churches westward along main street . The Coast Guard has been providing emergency services on the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans for over 120 years. On July 3, 1898, the Coast Guard was founded as a part of the United States Navy. The first Coast Guard unit to be stationed in New York City was called “The Lone Eagle” and consisted of nine sailors. In 1903, the first Coast Guard station in Guam was established. The first U.S.-Canadian coxswain partnership took place in 1916 when both countries formed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). In 1936, it became apparent that other navies were not going to stand by and watch as Americans fought WWII alone. President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the National Defense Service Act which allowed for coast guard members to serve in any military branch including NATO nations. The Coast Guard also benefited from World War II when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor making America declare war on Japan with only 74 seamen participating VS Japan’s entire navy which had 650 vessels! After WWII, Congress completely funded the Coast Guard through appropriations bills until 1975 when they were re-appropriated through budgeting processes once again! The current state of the Coast Guard can be summed up with three main areas; maritime security, environmental restoration, and public safety! Each function has its own unique challenges and objectives that must be met in order to maintain our nation’s coastline safe from harm or disaster. Maritime Security: It is no secret that maritime threats are becoming more frequent and complex due to globalization and an ever-growing Asia-Pacific region where countries have access to greater amounts of maritime resources than ever before. As a result, coastal communities are increasingly dependent on coast guard services to protect their ports, harbours, coastsides and vital shipping lanes against pirates or other unauthorized activitiesculuses such as smuggling gangs or illicit drug traffickers (Fletcher et al., 2013). One way that coast guard members help prevent Maritime Threats is by working together with law enforcement partners such as local police officers or customs agents who can provide support during high volume timescales (Galloway et al., 2014). Additionally, states often partner with foreign governments in order to share intelligence about potential threats along coastal borders (Walsh & Karpinskii., 2016). This type of cooperation helps keep citizens safe while also sharing information about pirate activity so law enforcement can better investigate crimes committed by seafarers operating within their waters (Fletcher et al., 2013). The first permanent European settlement in what is now Connecticut was made at Wethersfield on the banks of the Mystic River in 1633 by Lieutenant Colonel John Eliot. In 1764, when Hartford became an incorporated town, New London became its capital. In 1814 it became part of Hartford County. From 1818 to 1846 it was the capital of Canada; from 1846 to 1919 it served as the capital of California; and since 1969 it has been its own independent city government.
