The Connecticut National Guard was organized on November 25, 1792 as the Second Connecticut Regiment of Foot. The regiment wasraised in New Britain, Connecticut by Colonel John Nicholson. It served in the American Revolution and then the War of 1812. On October 15, 1840, the regiment was re-organized as the First Connecticut Regiment of Foot and became part of the Regular Army under Major General Israel Putnam. In 1861, it became a brigade within the Fourth Corps ofthe United States Army and participated in combat at Bull Run Bridge and Manassas Junction. In 1865, it merged with other units to form the Third Brigade ofthe Third Division of Ulysses S. Grant’s army during his Overland Campaign against Richmond. The brigade fought at Appomattox Court House and Reidsville before being mustered out on April 9, 1865. The National Guard has been present in New Britain since 1792 when Colonel John Nicholson raised an infantry company from settlers in what is now New Britain town center (then known as West Hartford). Ever since that time there have been various unit name changes including 2nd CT regiment (1792-1840), 1st CT regiment (1841-61), 3rd CT brigade (1865-65), 3rd division (Ulysses S Grant’s army) (1865-69), 4th CT brigade (1969-present). The current incarnation as the 1st/3rd Conn NH National Guard comes about through local Ordinance No.# 598 passed by Mayor David Jaffe on October 11th 2009 which governs all things military related within town limits; this ordinance specifically authorizes formation/organization/funding for state military forces within municipal boundaries; this ordinance goes beyond just providing authority forunits to wear uniforms & carry firearms etc., but also allows2ND COSTILLATION to create an event space where patriotic brass can be played live music all summer long! The Connecticut National Guard was activated on December 15, 1916 and consists of the 1st Battalion (2nd Regiment), 9th Regiment, 10th Regiment, 11th Regiment, 12th Regiment and 13th Regiment. The unit has served in various capacities since its activation including World War I; World War II; the Korean War; Operation Desert Storm; and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
New Britain, Connecticut is a town in Middlesex County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 8,542 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hartford-West Hartford Metropolitan Statistical Area. New Britain is one of the oldest towns in the United States and has been inhabited by Native Americans for over three centuries. In 1636, English settlers named it "New Britanny." New Britain was incorporated as a town on February 26, 1814. On November 3rd, 1868, it became a city with a population of 508 people. The town lies on the north bank of the Raritan River just east of its confluence with the Thames River. The river forms part of the border between New Britain and Bridgeport to the south; both cities are within Connecticut's Fairfield County. To its east lies Saybrook Township and to its west lie Enfield and North Blackstone Townships. According to the 2000 U.S Census Bureau report,[1] there were 7,584 people living in New Britain when it first formed as an organized township; this figure had increased to 11,811 by 2008.[2] However according to unofficial reports[3], as early as 1814 some residents were already planning on leaving for more populated areas nearby such as Bridgeport or Hartford due to problems with malaria pandemic which then raged throughout much of America at that time[4]. As late as 1856 about half of all citizens lived in either bridgeport or new britannia while only 10% resided inside what would later become called Hartford proper[5]. By 1800 about 60% of households consisted onlyof family members while 30% comprised other domestics including slaves who worked for their owners[6]. According to historian Barbara Haddock Smith:[7] “the migration (of colonists) from northeastern England during this time led not justa change in economy but alsoa changein social structure” Assembling evidence suggests that many natives did leave post-1636 due natural disasters such as floods (Makah), epidemics (Mendenhall Fever), diseases brought over by European immigrants (smallpox), war (Greenwich Village fire), economic opportunities available outside their home country(such as land grants given out through treaties), religious conversions among locals opposed to Anglican/Puritan practices following Explorers' Expeditions into Canaanite territory in 1624-25,[8][9] British political control over parts of northeastern Vermont after 1784--and finally American independence demonstrated against these trends culminating with General Israel Putnam's Invasion & Conquest Ofprinted Rhode Island In 1776—resulting in large waves deporting Native Americans from southeastern Connecticut—including most notably those from Newtown Creek area surrounding present day Dunster Townshend Village & Saugus Hill Cemetery made up largelyof Indian descent—most notable among themwas Chief Miskito’s band from Newtown Creek known collectivelyas “The Potomac Indians”
The National Guard is a branch of the United States Armed Forces that is responsible for providing security within their respective states and territories. The National Guard has been in existence since 1792, when the Continental Congress created the first national guard unit. The modern National Guard was organized on July 1, 1903, as an independent corps of soldiers under the command of the Army General Staff. Today, there are nearly 122,000 active duty members of the National Guard in 33 states and Washington D.C. The service provides law enforcement and disaster relief capabilities in support of many state and local functions. It also provides military training to civilian personnel and serves as a reserve Component of many federal agencies including the Department of Defense (DOD), Homeland Security Agency (HSAA) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS). One important aspect of the Guards' history is its participation in various U.S Presidential inaugurations including those by George Washington, James K. Polk and Franklin D Roosevelt among others. In addition to its ceremonial role at these events, Guardsmen have been mobilized during times such as World War II (1939-1945) and Operation Desert Storm (1991-1992). The Guards played a significant role during the American Revolution and when the country was founded, and continue to play an important role today. The National Guard has also been used in numerous other times throughout history. Today, it is one of the largest and most diverse branches of the U.S. military, with over 150,000 members across all 50 states. In response to911th anniversary events, President Obama announced that all Guardsmen will have free access to health care through Veterans Affairs hospitals on October 15th and 16th. This event is part of his effort to show support for our troops and their families.
New Britain is a town in the U.S. state of Connecticut, located on the Connecticut River. The population was 25,816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hartford-Wethersfield-East Hartford, CT Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in New Britain was Nicholas Rowe, who arrived in 1670 and built his house on what is now Main Street. The town was founded by Samuel Unruh in 1712 as a trading post on the river between Hartford and Wethersfield; it became a separate town in 1838 when it lost its connection with those towns. The economy of New Britain has been based primarily on agriculture since colonial times; today, much of the town's commercial activity takes place along Route 9 east of downtown. Manufacturing also plays an important role in New Britain's economy: many local companies are involved in heavy industry such as manufacturing steel, plastics, and textiles; also headquartered here are two major banks: First American Bank and Smith Barney & Co.. In recent years, there has been significant redevelopment taking place within the limits of the old downtown area which has brought new businesses to town center including two high-end restaurants (Prisoner’s Diner and Capital Grains) as well as several small shops catering to an urban clientele - most notably Aveda House Salon & Spa which opened up shop inside one of Olde Towne Plaza buildings next door to Prisons Diner just last year!
