New Britain, Connecticut is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. It was founded on October 14, 1764 by the merger of two small villages: Newtown and East Granby. The first coffee beans were roasted there in 1795. In 1837 the first post office was established in New Britain. The town became an important center for coffee production after it became apparent that only pure roasting beans could produce a high quality cup of coffee. For many years, New Britain was the largest producer of coffee in the world. The town had its own mill and warehouse where coffee was ground and packaged. After World War II, when mills closed down all over the country, New Britain's sole remaining industry was packaging and selling processed foods made from local beans

New Britain, Connecticut is home to the first coffee plantation in New England and one of the earliest stores that sold roasted coffee. The town was founded by John Winthrop in 1630 and became a center for coffee production after his land became available. The first café in New Britain opened in 1824 and served as a source of caffeine for local businesses. In 1846, the first commercial espresso machine was created in New Britain and soon thereafter, cafés began serving espresso drinks all over the state. Coffee beans were brought overland from Rome during the Revolutionary War and were picked by hand until they could be processed into coffee beans.
New Britain, Connecticut is a town in the U.S. state of Connecticut. As of the 2010 census, the population was 34,898. The name comes from New Haven Colony and its first governor, John Winthrop. The town was founded in 1764 by settlers from what is now New York City as part of a land grant to Colonel Thomas Whipple. It became a separate incorporated town on July 1, 1819 under an act of Congress. The townsite at which New Britain resides had been surveyed in 1764 by Captain Josias Harward and named for Nicholas-Jacques du Pont de Nemours, 2nd Baronet (1685–1768), who had donated some 400 acres (1 km2) to the colony as well as $10 per acre ($160 perkm²). DuPont was born in 1685 near present-day Waterbury and died there on September 21, 1768; he bequeathed his estate to his cousin Nicholas-Jacques de la Fayette (1684–1763). On October 26, 1765–66, Harward divided the land among his three friends: James Kieft (from Newtown), Nathaniel Gorham (from Saybrook), and Nicholas Wadsworth (of Hartford). In May 1767 he patented 12 lots within the limits of new town including that now occupied by New Britain; these were purchased from Edward Winslow by Samuel Adams for $4/acre ($36/km²). Adams erected a log courthouse on Capitol Hill overlooking downtown on July 3, 1768; it served until replaced in 1874 with a brick building designed by Elias Howe & Sons. The original court house burned down December 14th 1814 while being used as a warehouse; it was rebuilt using materials from nearby Stamford’s old arsenal and completed May 6th 1815teriorly along State Street between Asylum Street and Main Street – now called First Avenue – with additions made throughout its use including an undercroft for storage above ground level behind two low walls located immediately north of the front door leading into the building interiorally where one finds today’s vestibule east of First Avenue entranceway flanked today either side by two tall arches each surmounted today by large granite pillars supporting entablatures sheltered internally from weathering below grade level only accessible via ramps built externally onto both left hand sides approximately high enough to allow insertion or exit through small openings cut into both masonry walls Surveyor Charles Nicholson dedicated this structure on November 15th Northampton County Court House which functioned not only as Courthouse but also jail during times when Hartford had no Jail available records survive documenting this activity circa 1800 have shown that this building housed several different purposes over time including Schoolhouse before it fellinto disrepair about 1840 [See attached map]. Coffee began to be grown in Africa and Arabia around 1800. The Columbian Exchange brought new plants and techniques to America, which resulted in increased demand for coffee. Roasted beans were first smuggled into America on shipwrecks before being traded with European traders. The early Americans used different methods to get their coffee - Native American women would roast the beans while men slept; slaves would pick up small pieces of wood that had been burned down so that they could create fires to roast the beans; and hogsheads were filled with water and set afloat until it became hot enough for people to drink from them. Between 1850 and 1875, Dutch farmers began growing coffee in New Guinea. This gave rise to what is now known as Indonesia’s second largest producer of raw ground coffee after Brazil’s Minas Gerais region. In 1886, John Peake founded Peake & Company Ltd., which became one of the world’s leading espresso-based brewers. In 1912, Alfred Peake merged his father’s company with Jura Coffee Group AG (Juracoastal) creating one of Europe’s top roasters having its origins back at Weingärtner Strasse 17 near Vienna during World War I when Austria-Hungary was Soviet Russia

New Britain is a town in the U.S. state of Connecticut and the seat of New Britain County. The population was 7,890 at the 2010 census, making it the largest town in Connecticut by population. It is part of the Hartford-West Hartford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to explore what is now New Britain were Pilgrims who made landfall on Cape Cod in 1614 and erected their own settlement there before sailing northward to Newfoundland in search of a new home for themselves and their children. In 1624, English settlers founded Norwich on Long Island Sound and named it after their old home county of Norfolk, England. On November 3, 1628, Parliament passed an act creating new townships in western Connecticut with land east of the river Thames as part of what would become Springfield Township (later Easton Township) within Westchester County; New Haven was not included among these until January 1, 1785 when it became part ofHartford-West Hartford Metropolitan Statistical Area In 1801, Norwich Mayor John Dickinson proposed that a post office be established at Stamford for people located near Saybrook Lake where he had seen an animal some days previous which he claimed was a white bear due to its color being different from any other bear he had ever seen. When Massachusettes Post Office Act did not take effect until 1832 because no one had applied for it since March 1st that year, Stamford Post Office served as both offices concurrently until May 6th 1830 when they were moved to Derby Post Office which serves today as the primary town post office serving all three towns along with surrounding villages including Enfield and North Groton The first school in New Britain opened September 2nd 1812 under teacher Mrs Capp’s class at Oldmeadow house next door to Trinity Episcopal Church now known as First Congregational United Church #1 also known as “Pioneer House” On October 15th1836 Reverend Ezra Stroud arrived from Canterbury Village NY preaching revival sermons entitled "A Revival At Newtown" Heading back downriver we met many sick people waiting out waterspout bad weather but also saw many families having babies soo soon I baptized 4 little girls this day Mr Baptiste baptized his son François
