The American Revolution was a time of great change and upheaval. For the Connecticut militia, it meant the end of British rule in North America. The revolution also signified the beginning of a new era for the Connecticut Army. After years of development, this all-male force had finally come into being. At first, the Connecticut Army consisted only of soldiers from Hartford and Stamford. However, as the revolution progressed, more men from other villages and towns joined forces with the army to help defend their homes and countrymen. By 1775, there were over 1,000 members of the Connecticut Army stationed in New Britain. This deployment was key to helping secure vital resources and manpower for what would become one of America’s most important wars – the Revolution itself. The army helped win many battles against British troops and even managed to capture some key strategic targets such as Fort Ticonderoga in December 1775. At its height, the Connecticut Army numbered over 3,000 men strong. Today, however, there are only a few remaining traces of this once mighty force. In fact, little is known about how or when these soldiers began serving in New Britain during the Revolutionary War – let alone what they did on warpaths throughout North America! Nevertheless, military history buffs across America still appreciate this seminal contribution to our nation’s history!

The Connecticut Army National Guard troops have been deployed to New Britain, Connecticut for a variety of reasons. Some time ago the unit was mobilized in support of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Additionally, the unit has been called up for various exercises and deployments throughout the year. However, this is the first time that they’ve deployment to New Britain.
New Britain is a town in the state of Connecticut, United States. The population was 24,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hartford-Weston metropolitan area. New Britain was founded in 1664 by Puritan settlers as part of theConnecticut Colony. In 1824, it became a part of Hartford County and in 1828 became a city. In 1925, it became an independent city again and has remained so ever since. The first settler to arrive in what is now Newburyport was Daniel Webster who arrived on September 8, 1664 with his family from what is now Massachusetts. He named his new land "New Britain" after his home country, England. The first town meeting was held on October 4th and 5th of that year and voted to incorporation intoHartford County as well as to name their new city "Newburyport". On January 2nd, 1765 Nathaniel Green established Green's Mills at present day Post Road and Old Saybrook River which made him one of the early entrepreneurs in this community. In 1824, when Hartford County was created from parts of Hartford Township (including much of modern-day Watertown) and Windsor Township (including much of modern-day Stonington), New Britian changed its name toHartford County because it had become an important coal mining center for both the United States Coal Company and British Railways. On February 14th, 1927 - two days after he assumed office as Mayor - John Fenton signed legislation creating City Hall Square within walking distance from all municipal offices including City Council chambers where decisions were being made about future growth within the limits set for First Ward boundaries; subsequently renamed Freedom Square upon assuming office as Mayor on July 1st 1984 This coincided with Boston's rebranding following their victory in November 1983 over Manhattan Beach - becoming known officially as "Boston – City Hall Square" . Independence Hall still stands today across from Freedom Square having been moved there during renovations done between 1984-1996 resulting in its current location close to Interstate 95A exit 11/12

Grant sent a trunk of cigars and cigarettes to Confederate General Robert E. Lee. 1906- The U.S.Army donated an ambulance to Sweden in 1906 as part of their International Cooperation program, and it remains one of the army's most cherished gifts to that nation to this day. 1970s- Beginning in the 1970s, the army began gifting items such as radios, computers, and other electronics equipment to countries around the world through various international aid programs such as Operation MEND (Mutual Aid for Democratic Peoples). 1999- In commemoration of World War II's 60th anniversary, the U.S.Army gifted two submarines, USS John F Kennedy (SSN 721) and USS Constitution (CVN 76), along with five other warships to Japan via Operation Tomodachi which focused on improving relations between Japan and America following WWII
New Britain is a town in the Connecticut River Valley of east-central Connecticut. It straddles the river's edge on the north side and is bordered by Saybrook to the south, Whitehall to the west, Waterbury to the east, and Groton on its southern border. The population was 7,851 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans who set foot in New Britain were Frenchmen who arrived in 1624 as part of a fur trading expedition led by Samuel de Champlain. They named their new settlement Point Judith after Queen Judith of England who they thought would be friendly and help them blockade France during King Philip's War. In 1638, English colonists arriving with Governor John Winthrop came ashore from what is now Hartford Bay and founded New Britain on land that now includes most of what is today Hartford County. The town was originally named for Sir George Yeoman (or Yeoman), an English officer who had accompanied Captain Christopher Gorton on his journey upriver from Plymouth to claim this area for England. After Winthrop's death in 1640, his son William took over as governor and changed the name to New Britain because it sounded more British than Connecticut Colony which he had founded two years earlier. The original buildings in New Britain were log cabins built near wherepresent-day Chapel Street meets I-95 trunk line about a mile northeast of downtown; these structures were demolished around 1820 when construction began onthe present day courthouse building across Chapel Street from where present-day State House stands today. In 1796, James Kieft purchased additional land adjoiningwhat is now Wallingford Avenue within sight of central city limits and began developing what would become Kieft Parklands which include parts of today's Old North End neighborhood as well as much of later Wallingford Heights neighborhoods adjacent thereto including Summerhill Village; Kieft also constructed several churches including Trinity Church located atcurrent-day Main Street corner with Washington Avenue (now Griggs Road). In 1836 John Cushing became territorial governor of western Conn., overseeing all Indian Territory west of Canada Line; while there he designated present day NewBritain as part of his new district called "Connnecticut District", comprising all eastern Dutch Long Island Sound beyond modern Bridgeport boundaries including points extending into modern Westchester County along Long Island Sound shoreline between Saybrook Harbor/Nassau Bayou on Long Island Sound mainland nearest US Coast Guard Station Mayport Harbor - Stony Brook Harbor - Babylon Harbour - Hempstead Harbor - Montville Harbour - East Hampton Harbour - Farmingdale Harbour No later than 1837 NBDI transferred jurisdiction over present day Groton Township from Connnecticut District to newly created Hartford County subject only to annual appropriations by Congress based upon Census findings then known & changeable without notice or hearing thereby creating some jurisdictional uncertainty until 1959 when finally all butGroton Township vestiges reverted back under federal government control effective January 1st 1959 thru November 30th 1969 thus terminating any remaining ambiguity surrounding NBDI’s true jurisdictional authority over towns withinHartford County although still subject to appropriation by Congess subsequent thereto).
New Britain, Connecticut was one of the original colonies in New England. It was formed from a group of settlements that were part of the Plymouth Colony. The town of New Britain was first settled in 1638. The town became an incorporated city in 1834.
