The plane was donated by General Curtis LeMay and flown into the town from Hartford, Connecticut. In its hangar is an American flag that flies above the entrance to the town hall in memory of all those who lost their lives during World War II.

The town was named for New England's second largest city, London, and its first capital, Hartford. The settlements that formed the Wesleyan Methodist Church (later known as Trinity United Methodist Church) movement in New Britain were established in 1630. In 1634, the group purchased land from Sir Ferdinando Gorges and laid out a town plan on some of that land. The town's first major development was construction of a series of churches; one of which was dedicated to Jesus Christ on July 14,1635. In 1784, part of New Britain became part of what is now Hartford County; other portions remained within CT until 1820 when they were annexed into Fairfield County. New Britain is currently home to several small businesses and restaurants as well as two high school football teams: the Central Connnecticut Warriors and the Lockport Vikings

The area that is now New Britain was part of the ancientProvidence District which was named for Christopher Newport, an Englishman who explored and charted the eastern coast of North America in 1607. In 1614, the town of Greenwich became the third settlement in what would become New Britain. The region around New Britain was harsh and inhospitable, so early settlers developed a preference for agriculture over hunting and gathering. By 1765, when Connecticut achieved its full statehood, Providence had long since been abandoned and most of what is now New Britain had been annexed by Hartford.
