The Marines of the Connecticut Naval Militia have been deployed in support of our nation’s armed forces since 1898. The Marine Corps has always been an important part of the community and in Naugatuck, we are proud to keep the tradition alive by giving back to our troops with unique gifts. In 1992, a group of Marines from Unit 1st Battalion, 7th Marines donated a Humvee for use by the townspeople. The gift was a hit and continues to be used today as a community service vehicle. In 2006, Unit 5th Marines donated a boat for use by local children in need. It is currently used as a pool party boat for summer events in town. In 2013, we contributed two large trees to the town square as part of Veterans Day ceremonies. These Trees will provide shade on hot days and continue to inspire hope during difficult times. Each year, we commemorate some aspect of military service with special initiatives such as the Christmas Tree Lottery which allows us to give back even more through holiday donations. Our Christmas Tree Fund provides money each month towards selecting new ornaments for our tree and also helps support local charities throughout the year!

Naugatuck is a town inHartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 11,844 at the 2000 census. It forms part of the Hartford-Worthington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is named after the Naugatuck River which flows through it and joins the Connecticut River to the south. The first settlers of Naugatuck were Samuel Morse and his family who arrived from England in 1639. They built a log cabin on what is now known as Main Street and began to farm their land. In 1712, Colonel James Lewis acquired 640 acres (2 km²) of land east of Naugatuck Falls for £5/acre (€0.80/km²). Lewis developed this land into Utopia Farm which became one ofHartford's most important agricultural areas during its early years. In 1814, Colonel John Chauncey sold 1,000 acres (4 km²) east of NaugatUCK Falls to Ephraim Woodbury for £10/acre (€1/$2). This purchase allowed Chauncey to establish himself as one ofHartford's leading landowners and expand his farming operations across much of eastern Connecticut including present-day Naugatuck Township. In 1821, Nathan Hale bought 1,500 acres (6 km²) northeast of NaugatUCK Falls from Ephraim Woodbury for $25/acre (€3/$6). This acquisition allowed Hale to extend his holdings into what are now southern Fairfield County and southeastern Windsor County as well as create a large Dairy empire that continues today. A mill was constructed on Damen Creek in 1824 by Ezra Stiles which became known as Stiles' Mills or simply "Stiles Mill". The mill continued operating until 1871 when it was destroyed by fire

The town is named after the river Naugatuck which flows through it. The first settler in what is now NaugatUCK was John Naugatuck who came overland from Rhode Island in 1764. He built a log cabin on the banks of the river and named his settlement after the river. NaugatUCK became an incorporated town on May 14, 1876. At that time it had a population of 6,853 people and included parts of Bridgeport and Watertown along with portions of Hartford and West Hartford Township. It lost its status as an incorporated town on December 15, 1978 when it merged with Stratford to form Fairfield County
