The United States National Guard was established in 1792, during the French and Indian War. The first units were formed in Connecticut and Rhode Island. In 1812, the Guard was organized into brigades under the command of colonel John Jacob Astor. During the American Civil War, the Guard played an important role in both Confederate and Union armies. By 1865, it had grown to over 12 million soldiers, including 1 million serving in fortifications along the eastern seaboard. The Guard disbanded in 1922, but was reorganized as a corps within the Department of Defense in 1950. It is now headquartered at Fort George Meade, Maryland. National Guardsmen have played an important role throughout U.S history and continue to do so today as part of our military’s Reserve components. Some of their most famous achievements include helping to keep America safe during 9/11 (in support of Operation Neptune’s Spear), fighting against rioting on New York City’s Times Square after Hurricane Sandy and countless other occasions across America and abroad.

The Connecticut National Guard was first organized on July 14, 1792. The regiment was originally called the Milford Regiment and it served in the Revolutionary War. In 1812, the regiment was redesignated as the 1st Connecticut Infantry Regiment and served until 1814. From 1814-1865, the regiment was known as the 2nd Connecticut Infantry Regiment. The regiment is now known as simply the Connecticut National Guard.
Milford, Connecticut is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 15,510 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fairfield County. The first permanent settler in what would become Milford was Nicholas Morse in 1764. He founded a trading post on the Mystic River and named it after his home town of Milford, England. A mill he built in 1772 became the first gristmill in New England. In 1814, Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail founded Hartford Telegraph Company to build and operate an telegraph line from Hartford to Stamford; Milford was chosen as the site for its central office because of its rich natural resources - including coal and limestone - which made it an important transportation hub for agricultural goods and manufactured products moving between eastern Connecticut and southern Massachusetts. In 1825, John Matteson erected a large frame courthouse on mile square (now called Elm Street) north of downtown Milford; it served as the center of government until 1830 when a new courthouse was constructed south of Main Street (now Elm Street). The old courthouse burned down in 1838 but was replaced by another large frame structure that still stands today – now known as Courthouse Square – within walking distance of most businesses in town. In 1849, Samuel Morse donated land adjacent to his millrace for University College at Yale (later Yale University), which became one of America's oldest universities; during World War I, many military officers were housed here before being sent back to their homes base across the river in New York City or White Plains/ Bronxville. In 1876–77, when part of Fairfield County united with neighboringHartford County to form what would become Hartford city, much ofMilford remained unincorporated except for portions lying within Hartfordshire eastward along Quincey Road into Plainfield Township; these areas became part of Plainfield borough after incorporation therehappened on May 2nd, 1898. As part of this unification process various mills closed or were bought out and converted into housing developments such as Deerpath Farms near present-day Old Saybrook Drive and Stillwater Gardens near present-day North Bridge Road; all but one – Millstream Farms – remain active today despite having been abandoned for years during various stages of conversion from agricultural production to suburban living quarters In 1957 Sunderland Proctor & Sons opened their furniture store on Main Street across from Courthouse Square; this store remains open today as one half century later it has evolved into one of Connecticut's largest employers with over 160 employees occupying more than 12 floors inside building plus warehouse space upstairs With defaults rates throughout much if not all markets reaching negative levels since late 2007 both commercial real estate investors seeking yieldabove 3% have seen some locations put up for sale while others continue operating without any major changes notwithstanding increasing yields elsewhere even with increased competition throughout much if not all markets milfdwellers are able to enjoy high quality architecture often times consistent with other nodes around town while routers can find affordable housing close by without sacrificing quality

Milford is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 20,812 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest town in Fairfield County and has the second-smallest population of any incorporated municipality in Connecticut. Milford's history goes back to 1637 when it was part of Hartford Colony. It became a borough in 1847 and then became a city on November 3, 1889. On January 15, 1991, Milford became part of the newly created Fairfield County. The first permanent English settlers in what is now Milford were brothers John and Thomas Stockbridge who arrived from Duxbury, MA on October 24, 1637 and set up camp near present day Saybrook Street. They had two dogs with them as beasts of burden to help carry goods overland to what would become their new home which they named "Milford". Thomas's brother John also landed here with his family around February 2nd of that year; he had sailed from Ipswich (now Boston) along the coast towards Northwich by way of Martha's Vineyard before arriving at Lyme Regis on March 12th. John & Thomas began farming land here soon after arrival and started raising corn for export to New England where it was ground into flour and sold under the name "Belcher" or "Bread Basket". By early summer of 1638 they had erected a small frame house called "New Mills", within today’s boundaries of Milford Town Hall on High Street opposite Saybrook Park - their only permanent structure until they built their own millrace several years later downstream on Saybrook Road which still forms an important water feature within town limits today! A few weeks after landing in America John &Thomas' three young children - Mary (baptized September 9th), Joseph (baptized December 7th) and Katherine (baptized January 25th – possibly naming after one or more female relatives back home in England) - joined them over the winter at Waterville Point east of modern day Saybrook Beach . All five siblings lived together for about six months during those warm autumn days prior to migrating southward downriver towards Hartford Colony which lay just across the river at what is now Danbury . That same fall Assheline Cottonlands were planted along both sides of Long Island Sound by order of Governor Winthrop leading up to what would become known as “the Great Migration” due to its overwhelming impact on local populations throughout New England during this period: many en masse left behind homes, families pets etc., seeking opportunity beyond their native communities – often taking whatever transportation could be arranged or finding work aboard ships sailing outbound from Plymouth Harbor… As these pioneers came ashore there weresignificant changes taking place right adjoining them including construction by select men OF THE FIRST STREET CARRIER IN NEW ENGLAND… This roadway still exists today extending through much older parts Of The Town Of Milford Throughout Its Core Business Area Today! In less than one year following John &Thomas' arrival some sixty acres adjacent To THEIR HOUSE WAS CLAIMED FOR FARMING AND IT CONTINUED TO GROW ALL THE WAY TO MILFORD HALL VILLAGE BY 1740! A STRICT RULE ALWAYS governed THAT NO ONE WAS TO ENTER OR EXIT FROM MILFORD WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM THE MAYOR! THIS PRECEDED ANY TALK OF POLITICS AS WE KNOW THEM TODAY! As time passed some other settlers moved into this area such as Nicholas Sinden who arrived just northwest Of The House In 1741 After leaving Hatfield Court House Where He Was Living With His Wife And Two Children One Born In 1700 And The Other In 1701 When He Left For Boston Actually Settling Hereabouts….. ALSO ARRIVING HEREAFTER WAS WILLIAM HOWELL WHO UPON HIS BEheading OF CAPTAIN JOHN BARNES AT MIDST OF APRIL 1745 NOTICES TO ALL HIS FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS THAT HE IS NOW LOCATED HEREIN AND HAS SETTLED DOWN IN THIS PLACEFOR SEVENTY YEARS NOW!!!!!!!!! William Howell was not actually born here however his parents may have been born nearby somewhere…. so milfords story goes something like this…… Shortly thereafter another settlement founded by Freeborn British subjects called Westwood grew southeastward past current Day Derby Avenue forming an important political center between Derbyville-Westwood-Watertown Junction becoming known as “The Quadrant” even tho those neighborhoods have since diverged somewhat geographically…. From this initial group about forty acres soared northeastward reaching today’s boundary line northwesterly Of Main Street next door To White Sands Lighthouse !!!!! So very quickly Candace Plantation popped up next Door To Westwood Village…." In 1847 Norwich City Council chose Milford as its seat based upon its importance as both an agricultural hub serving northeastern Connecticut and also because Mayor Amos Kendall felt that "…a large number [of people] resided without proper protection." The move followed a long struggle between Norwich City Council members over whether or not to annex neighboring towns Watertown/Derbyville/Westwood into Norwich while continuing claims by residents for themselves... In 1892 Norwich annexed all four towns making Pluralism Law again effecting Milord effectively ending intra city politics once and for all………….. Despite all these efforts though there remain remnants of intra city rivalries still playing out occasionally especially regarding zoning laws etc…..Todayadays many people either live close enoughto each other for socializing or simply take public transportation to do their shopping situated mainly near Bloomfield Hills Boulevard outside Of downtown Springfield………. But even with all these advantages there are always going to be some folks who feel like they need more space!"

The original settlers were Quakers who fled religious persecution in England.
