Edward Jankiewicz’s luncheon presentation on behalf of Mrs Burt at Government House on Park Hillwindy Road in Windsor on July 12th 1931 – just days before her husband’s death following three months service with 3/9 “The Winnipeg Grenadiers” AIFregiment British Army (Australia). Mr Saucier returned fire upon Japanese shelling near La Grave airfield on December 8th 1944 while serving with 7/5 Rifles Canadian Infantry Brigade attached to 10 Commando Group RAF under Lt.-Colonel Malcolm MacDonald DSO MC Heaps VC RNVR when he killed seven Japanese soldiers including their leader Orito Shimomura using his Thompson machine gun manned by Corporal Jack Purdy VC RMDRN after emerging from cover behind some boulders about 150 yards south east from La Grave airfield north west from Amiens road junction….. Milford is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 25,898 at the 2010 census. The village of Milford had a population of 5,412 as of the 2010 census. Milford has been inhabited by Native Americans for over two thousand years. The first white settlers arrived in 1664 when Samuel Morse and his brother-in-law Christopher Hopkins founded what is now Milford. They named their new community after the ancient town of Medomai in Canaan, England. In 1776, during the Revolutionary War, Colonel George Washington's forces used Milford as a base camp before crossing into Massachusetts to attack Boston. The market place within town limits where goods were sold continues to be known as "Militia Square." On May 12th 1827 Eli Whitney founded Whitney's Typewriter Company with typefounders Elijah White and Daniel Baldwin at the square on Devonshire Street in Milford. At its peak production around 1911-1912 Whitney's Typewriter Co processed 2 million typewriters each month from its three buildings on Clinton Street between Second and Third Streets; it was one of only a few typesetting companies in America then that did not use electricity to produce its products (Whitney died in 1926). In 1892 five miles northwest of Milford Emerson Electric Manufacturing Company was established when Simeon Fuller bought an old foundry called the American Machine Works in Farmington Hills; this company became Emerson Electric Corporation (EMC) which changed its name to Xerox Corporation in 1959. EMC merged with HP Inc on April 1st 2006 to form Hewlett Packard Enterprise plc.(HPE).
