Air Force Deployed Gift History in Middletown, Connecticut began in 1941 when the United StatesAAFDeployed a gift to the city of Middletown, Connecticut as part of their War Assets Program. The gift was an American-made bomber, the Lockheed P-38 Lightning. The bomber had been donated by General Curtis LeMay and was used for training and VIP flights during World War II. The gift has continued to be a popular tradition at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado since it was first given to Middletown. Each year, on December 8th, representatives from all branches of the military come to town and take part in the air force deployment gift history program. This year’s event will include a flyover of USAF installations and a dinner at The Ritz Carlton Hotel.

Middletown, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 20,865 at the 2010 census. The name of Middletown is derived from the word "middlin'. It means 'a meadow where corn flowers' and this became its name because it was near the edge of a cornfield that had been long cultivated by the Middletown people. The first settlement in what is now Middletown occurred on July 4, 1636, when Capt. John Smith and his men set up a trading post on an island in the Rondout River. They named their new town after Captain John's wife, Meddleth (or Maidstone). The first white child born in Middletown was Samuel Westfall on October 15, 1795. A store opened in 1814 and soon became one of the most important economic engines in town. By 1830 there were over 50 stores and businesses operating in Middletown; it continued to grow until 1850 when it reach its peak with over 100 shops and businesses. However during much of this time period railroad development rapidly encroached upon village boundaries making trade difficult or impossible to sustain without outside help; as a result many small businesses disappeared or amalgamated into larger ones during this time period. In 1853 Doctor James Buchanan founded Central School which became one of the leading schools in Hartford County until it closed its doors for good in 1978 due to budget cuts undergone by then-Governor George Hynes during his term as Governor of Connecticut In 1865 Mayor James Kapp established Middletown cemetery which continues to serve as an important community resource today Between 1870-1920 there were several churches built here including First Presbyterian (1870), Methodist Episcopal (1881), Congregationalist (1901), Baptist (1902), Roman Catholic (1920) and Unitarian Universalist (1924). After 1920 these churches went through various changes but all have since reopened and continue to serve their local communities

Middletown is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 10,510 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bridgeport–Stonington metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1764 by Peter Henshaw and other settlers from Derby, England. Middletown remains one of the oldest towns in Connecticut and one of the most rural. Its ZIP code is 06609. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Middletown were two brothers named John and William Henshaw who came from Derby on October 14, 1764. They erected a small cabin on the east side of what is now Main Street to provide for themselves and their five children: Peter (born about 1765), Mary (born about 1768), James (born about 1770), Hannah (born about 1772), and Catharine (born about July 1,1774). On May 11th, they received a land grant from Governor George Washington that included all present-day Hartford County as well as land extending into what are now New Britain Township and Westford Township. In 1814 Jonathan Trumbull bought an acreage west of where Main Street intersects Court Road for $600 which he donated to build Trinity Church which still stands today across from First Congregational Church on Union Avenue

However, economic decline and social unrest led to a series of declines in Middletown's popularity over the ensuing decades. Today, the town remains a small but vibrant community with strong connections to its past.
