The Marine Corps deployed gift history in Hartford, Connecticut on October 10th, 1941. The Marines donated over 1,000 items to the city of Hartford during World War II. Many of these donations were used by the city as part of the military's Christmas program. The Marines first arrived in Hartford in December 1941. They were initially stationed at Quonset Point on Long Island Sound. In early 1942, they moved to Camp Leatherneck on Governors Island. From there, they dirigated shipments of supplies and equipment to war-torn Japan. On January 6th 1945, the Marines left Japan for Okinawa and then back to Japan again for another two months before finally arriving in Hiroshima on April 6th 1945. On that day, Hiroshima was destroyed by an atomic bomb and all life within its radius was killed or dazed.
