The Connecticut Army National Guard has a rich history dating back to the Revolutionary War. The unit was first organized on November 15, 1777, and served in the New England Confederation during the war. In 1812, the regiment invaded Canada as part of General John Burgoyne's campaign against Quebec. After suffering a great defeat at Yorktown, the ConnecticutArmy National Guard withdrew from Canada and disbanded on December 12th, 1814. In 1861, after three years of war with secessionist forces in Missouri, the regiment was reactivated for service in the American Civil War. It participated in several engagements including Battle of Pea Ridge and Battle of Corinth. On April 9th 1865, while engaging Confederate troops near Chickamauga Peninsula, Company H was ordered to retire behind a hill due to heavy artillery fire from Confederate batteries; however, their commanding officer refused to allow them to be captured alive by Confederate forces. As a result of this event Company H became one of only two regiments (the other being Company K) that never surrendered during the entire war. Following World War II soldiers were drafted into military service again in 1946 when President Harry Truman declared martial law in America following Communist takeover of China; however no new units were formed until 1950 when an all-volunteer force was activated for Operation Neptune's Spear which led to Korean War conflict between North Korea and South Korea. Army National Guard units deployed worldwide participated in peacekeeping operations such as NATO'sOperation Ivory Coast and UN Peacekeeping Force deployment Cambodia 1990-1992; AEF Kosovo 1999-2000; MultiNational Force Haiti (MINH) 2002-2004; African Union Mission AMISOM 2003-2005; Global Stabilization Mission Southern Sudan 2006-2007; MINUSMA 2007-2008; Libyan Civil War 2009 – 2010 Army National Guard units also serve as part of state militias throughout America through Specialty Units such as Air Defense Artillery Regiment (ADAR), Armor Infantry Battalion (AIB), Engineer battalion (EB), Signal Corps battalion (SCB), Troop Carrier Aviation Regiment (TCAR), Reconnaissance squadron (RQS) and Weapons Squadron(WSB).

The Hartford Volunteers were one of the most successful volunteer militias in America during the Revolutionary War. Formed in 1775, they fought on both sides of the war and helped conquer much of New England. The unit disbanded in 1802, but re-emerged in 1815 as a vanguard regiment under General John Stark's command during the Second Battle of White Plains. The Volunteer Regiment was finally disbanded again in 1865.
Hartford, Connecticut is a city in the state of Connecticut and the county seat of Hartford County. As of the 2010 census, Hartford had a population of over 203,000 people, making it the fifth-largest city in New England. The city is located on both sides of the Connecticut River, between New Haven to the north and Milford to the south. The first permanent Europeans to visit what is now Hartford were Jesuit missionaries from France in 1624-25. At that time there was only one settlement in what is now Hartford County: Windsor on Long Island. In 1632–33 Charles II granted land to John Winthrop for his colony at Harvard College which he founded in 1636. By 1701 there were over 100 settlers living in Hartford County; by 1760 its population had grown to 1,500 people. The development of transportation within this region led to an increase in trade and commerce between these towns and other parts of New England throughout much of the 18th century. This also contributed to increasing immigration into Hartford during this period as many new English families arrived seeking religious opportunities or seeking escape from poverty and social unrest back home. These immigrants would create some of Hartford’s most important institutions such as Yale University (founded 1701), Brown University (1765), United States Law School (1839) and Trinity Church (1812). In 1835 Robert Donoho became governor of Connecticut; under his watch much progress was made towards developing central government control over smaller states like Connecticut through legislation passed during his term including one that created limited voting rights for women which later became known as “Donoho’s Law” after him. The Panic Of 1837 caused a significant drop in business activity across all sectors including manufacturing which led some residents to leave town for economic reasons while others chose not to return until things improved following a rebound seen thereafter with increased business activity statewide despite continuing political instability elsewhere in North America due largely to British occupation efforts during that time period culminating in their departure just prior to American independence fully aware of exactly what was happening subsequent thereto Hartford experienced its first mass rioting when about 2,000 farmers demonstrating against low prices for grain rioted near City Hall on November 5th 1830; subsequent prosecutions did not result In any convictions although public sentiment slowly began rallying around those responsible leading eventually victory for the police officers involved with dispersing the crowd

Collins, Jr., commander of United States Forces Europe, decided thatArmy gifts should be preserved and studied as part of Army history. After studying gift history throughout the Armed Forces, Major General Collins determined thatArmy gifts were one of the most important aspects of soldiery culture and morale. He also believed thatArmy gifts represented an important part of Soldiery’s cultural heritage and tradition. Since then,the Army Gift History project has evolved into an ongoing research effort with many different goals: -to understand howArmy gifts have influenced Soldiery through the years -to preserve and study Army gift history for future generations -to learn about Soldiery’s unique sense of humor -to appreciate the importance of Army Gifts to Soldiers
