The Hartford Army National Guard has been deploying to various locations all over the world since World War II. The unit’s history can be traced back to 1941 when it was activated as part of the Connecticut National Guard. In 1957, the Hartford Armory donated their property to the Connecticut National Guard and the unit was renamed the 4th Infantry Regiment. The regiment served in Vietnam before being deployed in Iraq in 2003. After returning from Operation Iraqi Freedom, the regiment was again mobilized for Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Currently, there are four infantry regiments within the Hartford Army National Guard and they are Deployed here at Fort Dix, New Jersey; Ramstein Air Base Germany; Heverlee Air Base Netherlands; and Incirlik Air Base Turkey. The unit was first organized on November 12, 1914 as a detachment of the 10th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry Regiment.
