Derby is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 9,005 at the 2010 census. Derby is part of the larger Connecticut metropolitan area. The first coffee beans were roasted on a small plantation called "Otter" in 1793 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his brother-in-law Eben Fenton. They shipped their beans to New England where they were sold by local farmers and bought by British investors who exported them to Europe. The first coffee shop in Derby was opened in 1827 by James Ruggles and his wife Sophia Monk Ruggles in a building on the corner of Market Street and Main Street. By 1830, there were twenty-four coffee shops operating throughout the town. In 1847, John Morse started marketing a type of roast that he called "Morse's Gold." In 1853, Alfred Payson bought the business from Ruggles and began selling espresso drinks made with ground beans from various plantations across Connecticut including Ethiopian strain for which Derby became well known. In 1916, Jules Dyson founded Dyson Coffee Company which continued to sell espresso drinks until 1984 when it merged with Chase Manhattan Bank's Danforth Coffee Company to form Chase National Bank renamed Dyson National Coffee Co., Inc.. In 1984, Dyson National Coffee Co., Inc drove out all competitor Starbucks stores within two years with its own brand name 'Starbucks'. Today (October 5th), Dunkin' Donuts operates as Starbucks inside most malls across America while Keurig continues operate under its Ownbrand name within most home cafes throughout America (outside of malls). From earliest days until recently - when Dunkin' Donuts entered into an agreement with Kraft Foods - Derby's only outlet for coffee was located near what is now baby food plaza adjacent to Walmart Supercenter although several Eaton Place businesses also carried Dunkin' Donuts branding at one time or another during this period; however all such outlets closed circa 2006 when Walmart moved into their new location next door (the current site of Sears).

Derby, Connecticut is a small town in central Connecticut with a population of around 10,000. The name Derby was given to the town by General Nathaniel Derby in 1797 after his victory over the Native Americans at the Battle of Derby Creek. The General's forces were led by Colonel John Brooks and Captain Ebenezer Cooke. The first settler in what is now Derby was George Whitefield who arrived in 1796. He built a cabin on the east side of the river and named it Whitefield's Landing. He also founded Greeneville which is located just south of Derby Village today. In 1814, Jonathan Edwards moved from Northampton to establish himself as one of America's ministers during the Federalist Party era. He purchased land in what is now Derby from Samuel Morse and began construction on his house called Northampton House which still stands today. Reverend Edwards died in 1828 and his Estate was passed down to his son Jonathan Jr., who continued building until 1840 when it burned down due to faulty wiring inside. It was rebuilt by architect Isham Beale and finally occupied by Mrs Sarah Stone from 1909-1994 - an event that made her owner, Esther Morehouse, responsible for preserving one of America's last remaining examples of Federal period architecture%. After services at Northampton House were completed, Reverend Edwards' family traveled to their home at 114 South Main Street in New Haven where they resided until 1830 when they moved back to Derby along with many other Congregationalists following passage of The An Act for Religious Tolerance (1792). Reverend Edwards' remains are interred next to those of his wife Deborah at Greeneville Cemetery adjacent to Greenville Academy which he founded as a girls school c1812/13; this academy later became Yale University! During its heyday as an agricultural center with thriving businesses such as tanning pits, flour mills, cheese factories and more, Derby saw increased development during both world wars due largely to its strategic location midway between Boston and New York City - not only did this help contribute greatly towards its wartime economy but also helped jump start Hartford’s post-war resurgence! Today, much like many other small towns throughout Connecticut – including Windsor – Derbyshire has seen substantial gentrification taking place thanks largely to waves of migration from out-of-state into its borders; however despite all these challenges it retains some very core values including hard work ethic and selfless service alike!
