The Connecticut Naval Militia was formed in 1802 and has served as a part of the U.S. Navy since 1814. The navy deployed gifts to Ansonia, Conn., numerous times throughout its history. From 1903-1945, the navy donated over 1,500 items to Ansonia's community center and library. Some of these items include cutlasses, pistols, radios, cannons, flags and other naval memorabilia. Many of these donations were made in memory of sailors who have died in service or during World War II.

The USS Ansonia was a Length 52, Width 12 ship that served in the United States Navy from 1951-1962. She was deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and participated in Operation Neptune's Spear which ended World War II. The USS Ansonia was decommissioned in 1962 and is now preserved as a museum ship in Ansonia, Connecticut.
Ansonia, Connecticut is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 14,569 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest municipality in Fairfield County and the second-smallest in Connecticut after Bridgeport. The first European settlers of Ansonia were Nicholas Rowe and his family who arrived on May 3, 1636 from Ipswich, Suffolk, England. They erected a small cabin on the west side of what is now Main Street. The town was formed on February 15th of 1814 when parts of Hartford Township were divided off to form Fairfield County. The original courthouse was built in 1824 but its structure has been replaced several times. The most famous resident of Ansonia during its early years was General James Kieft who served as military governor for much of central New England during the American Revolution. He resided here from 1768 until his death in 1792 at age 70 years 5 months and 11 days. John Morse also lived here for many years before moving to Bridgeport, CT in 1840. One prominent figure associated with Ansonia during its early years was Major General Oliver Hazard Perry who served as an aide to Genl James Kieft during the revolution and later led an expedition against Mexico City under Ulysses S Grant's command which culminated with Perry's victory at Buena Vista Heights on October 20th 1847. A canal connecting Narragansett Bay to Lake George called the Orange River (now Long Island Sound) was completed through Ansonia in 1800 by Samuel Osgood which added greatly to local commerce and transportation opportunities; it increased trade between Ansonia and Norwich across Lake George by 25%. In 1846–1847 Captain Israel Putnam explored part of Long Island Sound and named it after his friend Colonel John Putnam (1764–1837), an officer in Lieutenant Governor Jonathan Trumbull's army serving under Commodore Samuel Chase during King George IV's War with Spain Ansonian residents took part actively throughout both World Wars including giving their name to numerous streets within towns along both coasts – notably Beach Avenue/Hazard Boulevard near Kingston Airport on Long Island Sound - as well as more than one bridge over various waterways (e.g., Putnam Bridge).
