The Army deployed a gift to Ansonia, Connecticut in 1864. The gift was an artillery piece, the "Patriots' Rifle." The rifle was given to the town by the military in memory of General David Hunter, who had died in battle in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Over time, many other families arrived inAnSONIA and it soon became one of the most vibrant communities on Long Island Sound! Ansonia is a town in the town of Ansonia, Connecticut. The population was 10,236 at the 2010 census.[1] It is part of the New London–based micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Ansonia was Nicholas Denison who arrived in 1639 with his family from England. He became one of the earliest merchants and explorers in what is now Connecticut. His son John Denison founded a sawmill on the west side of town in 1781 and built a gristmill on Main Street in 1814. The first post office was established at Ansonia in 1815, and it continued to be served until 1903. The name "Ansonia" was given to the place by General Israel Putnam after learning about it from local residents during his visit totown that year. In 1868, two brothers named Isaac Morse bought out their father's interest in the sawmill and founded Morse Brothers paper company which manufactured cash registers, school desks, door hinges and other items until 1977 when it merged into Hewlett-Packard Company Limited. In 1899, Ansonia incorporated as a village under state law No. 3509 (1899). Village growth slowed throughout most of the 1900s due to lack of development money but began to pick up again around 2000 when new mill projects were undertaken downtown; this led to an increase in population from 10 people per 1,000 residents in 2000 to 21 people per 1,000 residents by 2006,[2] before Decline accelerated starting around 2010[3] due largely to negative economic impacts associated with various sectors such as loss of jobs within traditional businesses caused by global competition (such as China), changes within commuting patterns (eased travel times for workers outside Ansonia thanks to highway construction) and demographic shifts due predominantly towards suburban residences[4]. As part of efforts underway since 2001/2002 aimed at reversing Decline or slowing its progress[5], aspects such as expanded public transportation options,[6][7][8] marketing campaigns targeting younger demographics[9][10], incentives for developers interested in boosting housing prices,[11][12][13][14] establishment of community board meetings responsible for providing zoning approvals for new development [+15],[16], creation of an open space trust fund that has been used extensively both through donations[17],[18]and through plans whereby vacant lots formerly used for agriculture can now be developed into mixed-use properties – including retail and office spaces – have helped spur redevelopment around Ansonian[/19]. Some hope also remains that more significantlocal economic development will result from large investment being made within our community’s borders rather than drawn away from it by elsewhere; however given recent trends these advancements remain far off hand should there be any reversals whatsoever over time
Ansonia, Connecticut was founded by Amerigo Vespucci in 1497. The town was named after Ansonia, Italy. In 1814, the town became a part of the United States of America.
