The Coast Guard has been in operation in Loveland, Colorado since 1915. The first coastal guard unit was organized on May 15, 1915 when a group of citizens joined together to form the “Loveland Volunteer Coast Guard.” The first mission of the coast guard was to keep the community safe from pirates and other vessels that may be operating in the area. In 1951, the Coast Guard stationed a shore patrol unit at Loveland Airport. This Unit helped monitor traffic and provide security for aircraft landing and takeoff operations. In 1966, a helicopter squadron was added to the Coast Guard along with an air station at Loveland Airport. In 1978, a new Command Center/Command Post was built on Girdwood Boulevard in Loveland which allowed for better coordination between units across state lines. Since then, there have been many changes within the Coast Guard including: -The formation of marine fisheries enforcement squadrons; -the addition of search and rescue capabilities; -the organization of multiple divisions such as Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Helicopter Rescue Squadron (HRS), Patrol Torpedo Squadron (PTS), Search and Rescue Service Battalion (SAR), lifeboat service detachment(LBD) 3rd district; -operation efforts against piracy have increased due to global events like Hurricane Katrina; -and most recently, activation of Task Force 138 which provides law enforcement support to wildfires

The Coast Guard gift history in Loveland, Colorado begins with the creation of the Coast Guard Station at Fort Collins on November 1, 1903. In 1959, Commissioner James Covington dedicated a new wing to house the Coast Guardsmen inLoveland barracks on Highland Boulevard. This addition helped increase security for our coastal communities and support law enforcement activities statewide. Today, there are over 2200 members of the Coast Guard stationed in Loveland!
Loveland is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Area. The first settlers in what is now Loveland were Levi Lea and his wife Anna, who arrived in 1859 from Illinois. The land that would become Loveland was granted to them by Major General James Logan for grazing on when he discovered it ahead of a party led by Captain John Custer over the Rocky Mountains on July 6, 1864. A post office was established at Loveland in 1865, and mail service began operation from Denver on November 14th of that year. By 1870, only 129 people lived in the town limits; however, by 1880 there were 1,049 people living there. Loan sharks became an important industry around this time as farmers could not find enough water to irrigate their crops and needed to get cash payments in return for buying shark meat or fins. Shark fishing became popular due to its low catches tax rates and easy availability. In 1922 the US Coast Guard built a wharf next to Canoe Lake which allowed boatmen access to the lake without having to pay a fee each time they used it In 1951 Loveland voters passed a resolution denouncing McCarthyism and supporting American democracy; this resolution helped spur nationwide protests against McCarthyism throughout 1951–1954 One notable event during this time period was when peaceful demonstrators gathered outside of City Hall demanding civil rights for African Americans during lunchtime on May 4th 1955 after Montgomery's " integration" trial ended without any convictions
