Colorado Springs, Colorado is a city in the U.S. state of Colorado and the county seat of El Paso County. As of 2010, the population was 853,567. In 1848, following Gold discovery at Telluride Citysite near modern Telluride Airport, Arapaho Chief Washakie issued a challenge to anyone who could find gold within 20 miles (32 km) of his village; this led to development around telluride where people started commercial mining operations beginning in 1851 including strikes at Park Hill and Silverthorn Mines before shipping watermelons downriver for processing into fruitcake using lower-quality water supplies available only 10 miles (16 km) away at Denver’s Cherry Creek Dam which began extracting coal tar from nearby hills starting in 1862 followed by other industries such as shipbuilding and agriculture until current day production activities are concentrated around Grand Lake High School/Telluride Industrial Park

Colorado Springs is a city in Colorado, United States. The population was 523,717 at the 2010 census, making it the seventh-largest city in Colorado. It is part of the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area and is located on both sides of Interstate 25. The first European Settlers arrived in what is now Colorado Springs in 1859. A post office was established in 1871, and by 1870 there were more than 50 residents living here. In 1892, the first school opened to serve this community of settlers. The city was incorporated as a municipality on March 3, 1914. In 1922, after years of development work led by Mayor John "Jock" Sweeny and City Manager Harry Cramer, Colorado Springs became one of America's first planned cities with comprehensive plans for land use and transportation systems. Central Park served as its centerpiece and remains an important tourist attraction today.
