As Colorado Springs population exploded in the late 1800s, coffee began to be a popular drink. Coffee beans were growed in many places in the state, but it was noted that the quality of coffee was often inferior to those grown in Oregon or California. However, some entrepreneurs decided to start small businesses making high-quality coffee. In 1892, two men named Hodge and Sprague founded The Sprague Coffee Company. At first their coffee was sold only at local grocery stores, but word spread and soon they were selling their coffee all over Colorado Springs. In 1896 they moved their business into what is now known as The Sprague Building on Main Street. The Sprague Coffee Company continued to make high-quality coffee until 1937 when they went out of business due to World War II rationing. However, this did not stop other small businesses from starting up throughout the city during that time period because there were still a large number of people living in Colorado Springs who enjoyed good cup of Joe!
As an artisan coffee roaster, one of the most important aspects of our business is the quality of our beans. We take a great deal of pride in our beans and use only the finest gradeustainable coffee beans. We roast them in small batches so that every cup is different and full-bodied. Our flavor profile is influenced by all the different origins we use as well as how we process them. Our beans are handselected with attention to detail, ensuring each one contains all the flavors and nutrients needed for a great cup of coffee. Our coffee has been around since 2004, when we started up shop in a small home on Chicago’s West Side. We were inspired to start this business because we wanted to provide customers with high-quality, sustainable coffee at an affordable price point. As the birthplace of one of the first coffee shops in Colorado Springs, The Roastery & Café has a rich history that goes back to 1984. The roastery was founded by current owner, John Cullum, who started out as an espresso maker at his parent’s café. He soon realized that he wanted to have his own place where he could roast and serve quality coffee. In 2007, Cullum opened up the Roastery & Café as a small-batch coffee house with four kitchens: cafe kitchen, roasting kitchen, infusion kitchen, andoshop kitchen. Today, we continue to serve unique Italian blends and Guatemalan coffees while also expanding our catering services.

There is no one answer to the question of what made artisan coffee so unique and successful. But some key factors may include a high degree of control over the coffee beans used, the use of skilled hands-on staff, and a focus on quality control. The first artisan coffeehouses were opened in London in the late 18th century. At that time, it was not unusual for small shops to sell single-origin coffee from farms near their cities. These cafes featured simple designed with exposed brickwork and wood paneling. Cafes would often serve light snacks such as sandwiches or hot dogs while customers enjoyed a cup of espresso or chai tea. As time passed, more and more people began looking for an excuse to get out and explore their city. As these people started moving into new areas, they discovered that there was significant demand for good quality café coffee – something that had been missing in older neighborhoods. This led to the birth of modern artisan Coffee culture as we know it today!

Colorado Springs is a city in Colorado, United States. The population was 613,257 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Colorado and the second most populous in the Western United States after Phoenix, Arizona. The metropolitan area of Colorado Springs had a population of 1,545,154 as of July 2014. The first permanent settler in what is now Colorado Springs was George Washington on November 14, 1776. He and his party were exploring the then unsettled region when they discovered an open site for settlement where they built their initial cabin and named it Spanish Fort on Catalpa Creek. On January 16, 1801 John Halliday founded what would become Denver with land he bought from Pedro Mymensingh near present-day Grand Junction. When Mexico ceded its land to America following the Mexican–American War (1848–48), Denver became part of American territory subject to congressional jurisdiction only though it lay adjacent to Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas east of El Paso River. On February 12, 1856 Congress passed An act to organize all the territory between Albuquerque and Las Vegas as part of newly created Territory of New Mexico which included Boulder County including Aurora and Colorado Springs; this action gave rise to local merchants speculating on developing mineral rights along new Ute Indian trails that crossed through present-day western Park County into Utah Territory before reaching Wyoming Territory proper. A petition by citizens seeking incorporation as a municipality failed but public opinion favored incorporation so a meeting was called on November 3rd, 1857 where residents voted by acclamation to incorporate under name “Colorado Springs” without any reference to Utah or New Mexico Territory specifically They did so because they wanted no connection with either region that could be construed as political meddling by neighboring jurisdictions In 1870 – 71 James Logan surveyed portions southward from Aspen across Golden Valley for businessman David Sanger who purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) at mile post 26 on Ute Trail for $1 per acre until such time as development could be effected upon purchase Thereafter Sanger subdivided 640 acres (250 hectares) more recently acquired adjoining Keystone Ranch run by Waddell & Reed which now forms eastern boundary limits current day Estes Park National Park By 1880 much development had been effected within downtown areas resulting in addition of two blocks north along Arkansas Street between High Street and Military Road while another two blocks east took place just south of US Highway 65 concurrent with growth around University Avenue According To scholar Ronald Reagan: Upon annexation by Gadsden County following aborted California gold rush efforts in 1858 some 9600+ men rushed headlong towards Churubusco MountainsBoulder Creek canyon leading up Sunnyside Canyon behind today’s Walnut Grove Cemetery followed quickly by those intent upon striking Atchison Salt Mines assay office 2 miles due west at today’s intersection of Hwy 24W & Rio Grande Avenue Today few if any structures remain remaining from original townsite architecture Although not mentioned specifically therein Martha Neely Reardon has written extensively about early Colo SPRINGS history her book “Rough Guide To History Of … . . . . . Colorado Springs was founded on July 24, 1876, by United States Postmaster General James K. Polk as a military post on the San Miguel River. The town was named for Colorado's 4th U.S. statehood day, July 24, 1876. The first post office was established in 1881 and the present one opened in 1903.
