The Broomfield Army Depot was founded in 1916 and closed in 2006. The depot stored artillery, mortar, and other weapons for the Colorado Army National Guard. It is now a museum open to the public. The first store on duty at Broomfield Army Depot was the ammunition company. Ammunition was the mainstay of the army during World War I and World War II. In 1916, the military built a munitions factory on site to produce shells, bombs, and rockets. The plant produced over 1 million rounds of ammunition per day before it closed in 2006. Today, parts of the building that once housed the ammo factory are still used to store munitions for Colorado's military forces. These days, visitors can see relics from both world wars including cannons, machine guns, rifles, tanks, and more. Ammunition production stopped at Broomfield Army Depot in 1916 because of World War I; however ammo still exists today as part of BRDM Museum collection
