The Aurora community has a rich airforce history dating back to World War II. The Colorado Air National Guard's 191st Fighter Squadron was activated in 1941, and served in the Western Pacific theatre of war. After the war, the squadron was redesignated as the 191st Bombardment Wing in 1947 and became an operational component of Air Force Base Colorado. In 1960, the wing converted to jet-powered aircraft and joined Air Combat Command. The wing flew combat missions over Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. In 1974,Air Combat Command reorganized and assigned wings to new geographic commands. The 191st Fighter Wing became part of Tactical Air Command based at MacDill AFB Florida. In 1999, Tactical Air Command was disbanded and its wings were combined intoAir Mobility Command under command of United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) which is headquartered at El Paso AFB Texas). As a result of this reorganization,the 191st FW lost its associate unit with McChord AFB Washington State that had been part of Tactical AirCommand since 1948 when Tactical Air Command was established as a separate organization within USSTRATCOM responsible for all USAF tactical flying operations worldwide

Aurora, Colorado is a small town in the Rocky Mountains of Larimer County, Colorado. The population was 7,000 at the 2010 census. Aurora is located on the east side of the mountains and is bordered by Aspen to the north, Lafayette to the east, Park City to the south and west, and Montrose to the northwest. The first person to settle in what is now Aurora was John A. Beatty in 1874. Aurora's downtown area was built around Beatty's store and office buildings. The first post office was established in 1875 and operated until 1912. The current building was completed in 1916 and replaced an earlier structure that had been destroyed by a fire two years earlier. Aurora has experienced several amendments since its incorporation as a town in 1907- one being annexation by Park City in 1913- making it one of only four towns incorporated within Larimer County before 1915 without changes to its boundaries (the others being Aspen, Lafayette, and Montrose). In 2007-2008 there were few changes with just 2% growth due to increased commuting into Denver from surrounding counties as well as more jobs available out of town for people living near Denver proper; nonetheless Aurora continued experiencing steady population growth throughout most of 2008 despite this modest uptick because jobs outside of Aurora are highly sought after both locally & nationally due to their proximity & quality of life opportunities provided therein
