The latest in this tradition is the M/V Gift Submarine, which was inaugurated by Commandant of Marines Roman J. Dolan on December 1, 2006. The sub is a gift from the United States to the territorial government of Guam, and it is one of only two such vessels in service with the Corps. A gift submarine typically contains items that are unique or commemorative to its recipient country, as well as supplies and equipment necessary for their military operations. The M/V Gift Submarine also features a state-of-the art communications system that allows Marines in adjacent Countries to communicate with one another even while underway. In addition, there are numerous other features unique to this vessel, including an extensive deck storage capacity that can accommodate up to 18 torpedoes or mines (for use against enemy ships), a helicopter landing platform (which can be used for providing security or transport support for Marines ashore), and a submerged hangar that can accommodate up to four helicopters. Commandant Dolan's inauguration ceremony marked the first time such a vessel had been sent specifically into association with Guam's local government. He stressed that his goal was not justto provide something truly special for Guam's citizens - but also show solidarity between the United States and Guam's sister island nation, Japan. To date, the M/V Gift Submarine has transported more than 3,000 gifts totaling over $120 million worth of prizes and goods to Guam residents alone!

He was found guilty and sentenced to death but fortunately for him died before his sentence could be carried out. As a result of his capture, Coronado became one of history's most celebrated martyrs.

The first post office in California was established at Point Conception in 1848, and it was named for San Francisco's point of origin.
