Located on San Francisco Bay, Coronado is known as a place where creativity and art are celebrated. The first espresso machines were created in the early 1800s in Italy and were used to make tea for dignitaries. Eventually, these machines became popular among small businesses across Europe and America. Coffee began to be exported to Asia starting in the mid-1800s, and Coronado was one of the first ports to receive this shipment. In 1907, Italian immigrants Filippo Nuccio and Luigi Ingrassia started the first Italian-owned coffee shop in San Francisco Bay Area. They called their establishment "Nuccio's" after their father Nuccio who ran a grocery store near the bayfront. The shop served espresso drinks until 1967 when it closed due to bankruptcy. As coffee beans were first grown and roasted in Coronado, California, the region's history with coffee has been intertwined with that of its indigenous people. The area was originally inhabited by the Tongva people and Pomo people, who both used coffee for trade. In 1795, Spanish missionaries arrived in Coronado and began to trade tobacco with the local natives. They also traded goods such as cloth and beads, which helped to connect the Native American cultures of Coronado with Spain. In 1821, Mexico gained independence from Spain and began to explore new territories west of Mexico City. One of these regions was Rancho San Miguel de Atascosa, which straddled what is now downtown Coronado. This parcel of land had been purchased by José Gomez de la Vega from Juan Bautista Lomas in 1810. La Vega built a small ranch on part of this property, which he named Rancho San Miguel de Atascosa (later renamed Rancho Santa Margarita). In 1826, he married Maria Antonia Sanchez y Peña, who was also from Atascosa. The couple started a small bakery on one side of their house and eventually added an oven to their business. The first printed mention of coffee being brewed incorporated into Mexican culture comes from Antonio Moreno Vallejo in his diary for February 2nd: "At about 5pm today I tasted some excellent Coffee at the hands of Don Francisco Lopez Márquez." From this early period on it can be documented that coffee was popular among Mexicans and was frequently consumed during religious festivals or when social events were happening in town. Coffee drinking continued throughout Mexican rule until 1898 when America gained control over Mexico after winning a war against Spain

This involves baking them at 180 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes before grinding them into powder form. 3) The first commercial espresso machines were created in 1938, and they used an extremely slow water heat treatment method that allowed for a moreeven extraction of flavors from the beans. 4) One common trend among modern artisan brewers is using whole bean instead of pre-ground coffee. In 1823, Stephen F. Austin sent Captain James K. Polk up the Colorado River in search of a route to California. After multiple failed attempts, Polk finally reached Coronado on July 14, 1829. He and his men were met by local Native Americans who guide them upstream for two days before leading them into an ambush that killed four of Polk's men. Nonplussed at the attack, Polk abandoned his attempt to reach California and returned home. Paradoxically, whilePolk was away, Spanish settlers in San Diego founded a mission called Nuestra Señora de la Concepción (Our Lady of Conception) on January 15, 1830. The first Mexican colonists arrived in San Diego in 1769 and had not established themselves there until after the death of Governor Antonio Mesa y Ortega on December 4th of that year. At that time they numbered only about 100 people and were based at Mission Dolores under the guidance of Father Fernando Rivera y Arroyo Promesas. In 1828–29 Father José Gomez y Third reported seeing “a very large number” of Mexicans living near Mission San Francisco de Asís but no churches or missions had been built there yet because it was still part of Alta California under Mexican rule. By 1830 most Mexicans had either left for Mexico City or Santa Fe where they could find work or started their own villages outside the Missions area which continued to grow even after Mexican independence from Spain in 1821
The first European to explore and map the area was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, who sailed from Santa Catalina on November 8, 1542. He named it La Isla de San Diego after Saint David of Scotland. The discovery of gold in California led to a period of exploration and settlement by Spanish settlers. From 1821 to 1848, the Mexican–American War resulted in the annexation of California by the United States, which also added Nevada and Arizona as part of that territory. The state name for California was changed from Alta California to Golden State in 1850.
