The Arkansas National Guard Air Force Base in West Memphis, Ark., is home to the third largest air force base in the United States. The base was opened in 1958 and has served as a primary airbase for the Arkansas Air National Guard since then. It offers an extensive range of operations, including fighter training and weather observation services. In addition to its military activities, the AFB also hosts civilian aircraft owners and operators who use it for research, development and test flights. In 1978, the AFB became home to the 9th Fighter Wing which was organized from elements of three other wings in Arkansas: The 4th Fighter Wing at Fayetteville; The 3d Bombardment Wing at Little Rock; and The 1st Aerospace Defense Command units at Fort Worth). This wing replaced one that had been stationed at Midway Airport in Dallas, Texas since 1954. At its height, 9 FW hosted 36 active duty USAF squadrons (the majority being used for flying training), 47 reserve squadron(s), 7 USAF Missile Squadron(s) (one each from Colorado Springs (1957-1981), Tucson (1982-1991), New Mexico City (1992-1998)), 2 Army Tactical Missile Squadron(s) (AAC Attack Squadron 1986-1991), 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment Light Tank Battalion Tulsa County Sheriff Posse Homicide Unit) and 1 Marine Aircraft Group Twentieth Marines based out of Naval Station Mayport on Pensacola Bay. On November 15, 1990 when two Boeing 737's crashed into a residential area near West Memphis after taking off from RAF Fairford Airport en route to Memphis International Airport with US Airways Airlines passengers on board - killing all five occupants -9 FW activated all four fighters along with KC-135 Stratotanker tanker support to search for survivors.� A total of 382 people were located by early December but only 12 fatalities were found.� All 5 crewmen are still remains today.� The 9FW activated all four fighters along with KC-135 Stratotanker tanker support to search for survivors.� A total of 382 people were located by early December but only 12 fatalities were found.� All 5 crewmen are still remains today.�
The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of giving back to society. From providing support for the Global War on Terror, to making donations to various charities, the USAF has always been there for its citizens. This year, however, the USAF stepped up their game by launching an airforce gift campaign called "Give Thanks". The goal of this campaign is to raise awareness about how important it is for military members and civilians alike to give back in order to help those in need. One of the most important aspects of Give Thanks is being grateful for what you have. When we are blessed with things like health care or access to education, we should be thankful for each and every moment. We must not forget that we are all stewards of our lives and can use any opportunity we receive to make a difference in somebody else's life. The Air Force gifted the West Memphis community an airplane in 1958. The plane was used for training and it was renamed the "A-4 Skyhawk."
West Memphis, Arkansas is a small town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest community in Pulaski County and the second-smallest municipality in Arkansas. The town of West Memphis began as an agriculture village on the north bank of the White River about two miles west of present-day downtown West Memphis. The first farmers arrived in 1875, and by 1910 most of the original buildings had been destroyed by a natural disaster. East Memphis took over as the main village center until World War II when both villages were combined into one. The post office closed on October 25, 1964; however, mail continued to be delivered through East Memphis until May 15, 1965 due to its longer path to reach rural residents. One account suggests that this was done intentionally because it favored East Memphis politically over West Memphis which had previously been considered more rural and Republican-leaning. In 1978, portions of West Memphis were annexed by east Tennessee's largest city—Memphis—in order to create a new city with a stronger representation for African Americans within its boundaries (East Memphis would become majority black only after being annexed). This move caused some resentment among local white residents who felt their town had always been separate from other parts of Pulaski County and that annexation violated their rights as citizens thereof. 2 years later on November 5th, 1980 when WMCV-TV affiliate KMEM moved from Jackson to servewestmemphis during off hours conflicts between KMEM management and Chatham Broadcasting Company led to several lawsuits including one filed against Chatham Broadcasting Company by entrepreneur Elam Hammoud who estimated that WMCV lost $1 million in advertising revenues alone because WMCV could not televise matches between Memphians & Hartsvilleians overnight due to conflict between KMEM management & CHAMBERMANN COOPERATIVE TV owner
The United States Air Force (USAF) has a long and rich history of giving gifts. Gifts have been given to the USAF since the early days of its existence, when members of the military formed an organization to buy supplies for their planes. In 1917, during World War I, the USAF began providing Notchback radios for use by fighter pilots. In 1945, during World War II, the USAF donated radar equipment to Japan in order to help them defeat America. The USAF also gave gifts such as missiles and aircraft engines to other countries during this time. In recent years, the USAF has made donations towards airpower education and research. In 2016, the AFB gifted $10 million to The George Washington University in honor of then-President Barack Obama’s visit thereto that year. Additionally, in 2017, the USAF donated a Boeing 747 jet engine worth $100 million to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland in commemoration of Air Force General Curtis LeMay’s death there at age 91 years old. This was one of many donations that year from both branches of the US military towards scientific research and educational purposes across multiple disciplines. Overall, it can be said that gift giving within the United States Air Force is an longstanding tradition dating back many years with a focus on helping others achieve their goals through technology while supporting airpower modernization efforts worldwide.

In 1951, the USAF was created as part of the National Defense Act of 1950 and became one of the few U.S. services to have its own air force group in peacetime. In 1962, it was re-established as an independent service with 1 million active duty members and over 20 wings spread throughout the country. The USAF is responsible for around 60% of all military aircraft deployments worldwide and is one of America's most powerful armed forces.
West Memphis, Arkansas was once a thriving city that thrived on cotton and timber. However, after the civil rights movement began in the 1960s, West Memphis quickly fell into decline. The city's population plummeted to just over 1,000 residents by the early 1970s and it has not recovered since. The city's only industries were small-scale agriculture and manufacturing. In recent years, West Memphis has been known for its annual popular summer music festival, which is now one of the largest music festivals in the United States. Despite its struggles, however, West Memphis has managed to maintain some of its unique features. For example, the city maintains a large black community and many of its streets are named after African American luminaries such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Fannie Lou Hamer and Alice Paul.
The town of West Memphis, Arkansas was founded in 1881 by the British settler Samuel Hogg. The town was named for the Northwestern Arkansas Railroad that ran through the area. The first white settlers arrived in 1881 and built a cabin on the edge of what is now known as Maple Lawn Cemetery. In 1885, Johnnie Cobb established a store in West Memphis and began to trade goods with surrounding settlements. A school was also constructed soon after. By 1886, West Memphis had a population of around 20 people and two churches were built. The west side of town developed into a busy commercial district with several stores, hotels, and banks. In 1909, there were only five residents in West Memphis and it had no schools or other public services. Although little progress was made during the years leading up to World War II, many businesses withinWestMemphis closed due to the war effort. However, there were some new businesses opened up during this time such as an air-force base which would later be called Air Force Base East . After World War II ended, most ofthebusinesses withinWestMemphisclosedagainandthetownturnedintoa sleepy little village In 1955, when Arkansas became a state, West Memphis voted to secede from Missouri and become its own country! Many people in WestMemphiswerefuriousatthispointandorganizeda campaigntoreturntoMissouri. However, they failed miserably; only one person out of 100 cast their vote in favor of secession! Despite this failure (and numerous insults hurled at them), many residents still remain proud of their decision to leave Missouri.
