Texarkana is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Central Arkansas Micropolitan Statistical Area. Texarkana is located on State Highway 214 and has a school system that includes two high schools and four middle schools. The first settlers in Texarkana were white men who arrived in 1868 from Missouri. They built their cabin on the east side of the Arkansan River near what is now Texarkana High School. On October 16, 1865, the First Baptist Church of Arkansas organized with James Hogg as its first pastor. In 1886, Johnnie Ladd bought 1/4 acre (0.40 km²) of land north of present-day Texarkana for $50 which he donated to the church to build a church and cemetery. A few years later Ladd donated an additional .75 acres (1 ha) to become town square which became home to both churches and civic buildings until it was destroyed by fire in 1912. The first post office opened in 1887 and was called "Arkansas". The name was changed to "TexarkANA" on December 12, 1907 after Wm McCormick established a telegraph line between Texas City, Texas (now El Paso), Mexico City and Arkadelphia, Arkansas serving Texans living along the Mexican border then known as West Texas Territory On February 14th 1909 local citizens voted to change their name back to "TexarkANA" after American President William McKinley delivered his annual address from Montrose Hall in Topeka Kansas about northwest of where Texarkana now sits On May 25th 1915 local citizens again voted to change their name back to "TexarkANA" after World War I veteran Colonel John J Mitchell reported from Fort Worth Texas that he had discovered oil reserves near centralArkansas not too far from where TexARKANA now stands

The city experienced a period of success during the late 20th century when it attracted prominent entrepreneurs such as David Teague and Lamar Hunt to its downtown area for business meetings and other important events. However, economic decline began to take hold in the 2000s and has since persisted. The current mayor of Texarkana is Leslie McFarlane with Mayor Pro Tem Donny Hathaway serving as acting mayor until he can be elected at large in November 2011. In 1916, Texarkana had 9 stores open including three feed stores operated by Cattleman's Clothing Co., Wagon Wheel Cafe & Saloon (later known as Longhorn Steakhouse), Jack Benny's Gopher Inn (& later renamed Red Lobster), Masonic Temple #1 (now home to IHOP), and Mrs Frankie Mae's Cafeteria (now known as George Peppin'.) A post office opened in 1916 with mail sent to Abilene, Kansas through Memphis Post Office then delivered via stagecoach to Texarkane on Republican Creek which passed through town on its way to Fort Smith Arkansas Territory along US 65 north of present day Arkadelphia). In 1924-1925 Standard Oil Co.'s John Denny built his first oil refinery here that produced 12 million barrels/year! This allowed forTexarcan attaining national prominence due its reliance on imported crude oil from Iraq making it one of America’s main Midwestern export centers during this time period
