However, by 1870 coffee had again become an important export commodity for the United States. The future of Texarkana as a retail center and commercial center came when John Southerland founded the First National Bank in 1887.Texarkana became known as "The Birthplace of American Coffee" due to its importance in coffee production and trade throughout the 1800s.

Texarkana, Arkansas is the largest city in the Texarkana, Texas metropolitan area and the county seat of Montgomery County. The population was 104,912 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Wichita Falls-Texarkana, TX micropolitan area. The first coffee beans were grown in what is now Texarkana, Arkansas in 1875. The town was named for Samuel J. Austin and his wife Katynah Dickson Austin who purchased 1,000 acres (400 hectares) of land here from James Fenton in 1876. In 1886 Captain Wm Hargrave opened a trading post here which became known as Hargrave's Ark. In 1903 Captain John Lubbock established a railway station at Texarkana and this became known as Lubbock's Depot or Big Texarkana Station. The first coffee beans sold commercially inTexarkana were from Mr. & Mrs. Aiken's Coffee House on Commerce Street between Main and Elm Streets where they roamed free to anyone who would purchase them (1889). These early customers included Judge Royce Cranch of Fort Worth and Lazarus Gentry of Dallas/Fort Worth who both bought large quantities of coffee to sell back home across the border at Fort Worth's Trinity Railway Station before returning westward through Texas to their various businesses including cattle ranching, farming, shipping goods by rail Cars underpowered with horse drawn wagons had been common east of the river but advances in locomotive power made this type of transportation more efficient so that by 1895 cars carrying steamed down McLennan Avenue from downtown Houston carrying 10 sacks (2 kg) each
Texarkana, Arkansas is a town in southern Arkansas. The population was 2,987 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock-North Little Rock-East Stroudsburg, AR metropolitan area. Texarkana is located on State Highway 66 about 20 miles (32 km) southeast of Little Rock and 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Memphis. The first settlers in what would become Texarkana were William Huggins and his family who came to the area in 1881 from Illinois. In 1907, J. C. Beaumont developed an oil refinery in the town which became one of the largest in the United States at that time. The town was named for General Sam Houston because he Adobe Walls National Monument was built near Texarkana to honor him and other Texans who had fought for Texas during its Mexican War and American Civil War periods. In 1930,Texarkana became home to one of the world's first children's hospitals when Brown Children's Hospital opened its doors there. In 1963, Texarkana also hosted athree day International Air Fair which attracted more than 100 airlines from all over the world to its fairgrounds including Boeing Airlines, Lockheed Martin Aircraft Co., McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Co., Honeywell Company, Pohlman Brothers Plastics Corporation and many others In 1984 John Lennon performed at an event at Texarkana Municipal Airport attended by more than 40000 people as part of his "Help! Texarkana is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 19,834 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. The first known permanent European settlement in what is now Texarkana was by French colonists who built a trading post on the banks of theArkansas River in 1765. Baton Rouge (French: Bâtillon) had been founded two years earlier and Fort Chartres had been built about north-west of this post. In 1768, Spanish colonists arrived from New Spain and established an allypost on the south side of the Arkansas River opposite Texarkana. This outpost was called San Fernando de Aragua (Spanish for "San Francisco de la Cerda"). In 1802, Arthur Ashe settled near present day Texarkana with his family as part of a land grant from President James K. Polk to help found Pulaski County. Ashe conducted agricultural experiments here and other activities before moving to nearby Fayetteville in 1843 to start anew as a planter and developer. In 1845, he organized what became known as the Texas Land Company which purchased large tracts of land east of Wichita Falls in what is now Northwest Arkansas and sold it off parcels one by one until it reached its final acreage today including much of downtown Texarkana
