Elisha Dunn, erected a sawmill and began producing lumber for homes and businesses in the community. The townsite became known as "The Lumber Capital of the World." In 1955, Sherwood incorporated as a city under the name of "Little Rock". On July 1, 1957, it merged with North Little Rock to form the Conway metropolitan area. Today, Sherwood contains a library (opened in 1907), two churches (Anglican and Methodist), three schools (one public and one private), an ambulance service (founded 1924), an ice cream parlor (), six restaurants (), two bowling alleys (), four bars () and several stores ().
