The history of the Sherwood Army Depot is long and varied. It began in 1899 as the Arkansas State Arsenal, renamed in 1904 toSherwood Army Depot after General J.B. Sherman’s headquarters was located there from 1907-1914. The depot served as a storage and ammunition depot for the Arkansas National Guard, as well as providing employment for local people during World War I and World War II.
