Searcy, Arkansas is a small town located in Baxter County, Arkansas. The population was 1,036 at the 2000 census. The community was founded in 1881 and named for Enoch Searcy, a United States Senator from Arkansas who served from 1886 to 1889. The town is built on the site of an old fortification which was built by the United States government in 1811 as part of the Compromise of1801. In 1881, Enoch Searcy donated land to the town for development. The first store opened in Searcy in 1882 and the first post office opened in 1893. Searcy has a strong local economy based on agriculture, manufacturing and services. It is home to several schools including Searcy High School and Searcy Elementary School. The town also has two churches: First Baptist Church and Methodist Episcopal Church. In recent years, Searcy has seen growth with development around its main shopping center and new businesses opening up around it such as a hair salon and bakery

In 1907, the Searcy Baptist Church was built and dedicated by Reverend J.H.Cope with $1,000 from local citizens. In 1935, Searcy had its first high school which graduated its first class in 1936 and then operated as a one-room school until it became a four-year high school in 1959. In 1954, Searcy had its own tornado outbreak which destroyed most of the town; however no injuries or fatalities were reported as a result of this event. After being devastated by a severe tornado outbreak on April 25th 1958 (an EF3 that killed two people and injured over thirty), the townspeople rebuilt quickly using funds they raised from their community meetings and auctions to purchase new homes and businesses throughout summertime 1958-1959 The economy has been dominated by agriculture sincethe early days of Searcy’s existence when many farmers grew cotton plantations In recent years primary economic activity has shifted towards services with an emphasis on health care,. There are now five hospitals within three miles of downtown – all private – as well as dozens of smaller businesses catering to various needs including food processing and retail sales Today’s residents continue to be deeply embedded within their community and supportive thereof; there have been few changesover time other than name change (from “Searcy” to “Little Rock”) while downtown has seen continued development Searcy is located at 36° 03′ N 87° 54′ W (36.042 degrees north, 87.68 degrees west).
