Searcy is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Rogers city metropolitan area. The Town of Searcy was organized in 1871 as a result of the merger of two settlements - Gadsden and Searcy - with a total population of 375. In 1907, the post office in Gadsden was moved to Searcy and renamed Pleasant Valley Post Office (later renamed Searcy). The name of the city comes from pioneer Daniel Searcy who settled there in 1825. A post office called Searcy was established in 1827 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first store opened on the corner of Main and Arkansas Streets in 1829. In 1849, John Crouch founded what became known as Crouch’s General Store which remains one of the largest general stores in town today. On July 1, 1907, Searcy had its own incorporation as a city under state law No. 9887A. The first mayor was J P Howlett and the first council consisted of six members: Hiram Witherspoon (5th Ward), W M Houser (1st Ward), P G Dodd (2nd Ward), F B Leary (3rd Ward), and T Maynard (4th Ward).
