Russellville is a small town in Arkansas, located about 20 miles northeast ofLittle Rock. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Logan County. The first settler in Russellville was W. A. Fuller, who arrived in 1872. By 1886, there were three businesses in town - a grocery store, a post office and a hotel. The first school was built in 1899 and served grades K-8 until 1916 when it was replaced by the present building which seats 125 students. In 1906, the first oil well was drilled near Russellville and production began soon after; this helped to spur development around the townspeople and brought new business owners into town. Russellville, Arkansas was founded in 1867. At that time, the area was part of the Mexican Territory. The town was named after General James A. Russell, who fought in the American Civil War. The first store in Russellville was built on State Street in 1869. In 1881, the population of Russellville was 1,500 and it had a school and a post office. In 1907, the town became an incorporated village. By 1920, the population had increased to 4,000 and it had a library and a water system. In 1951, Russellville became an agricultural township with a population of 2,500. After World War II ended, the economy of Russellville changed from agriculture to manufacturing because of new industry coming into town from outlying areas of Arkansas. This led to heavy unemployment in the late 1960s and early 1970s as Transcriptron Corporation left for Mexico City and other companies moved away from Arkansas because they could not compete with new competitors located elsewhere in Arkansas or Texas. By 1980, though there were still some traditional small-town residents hereabouts (and some people continued to do so even after relocating), most everyone else either had long since departed or had converted to modernism or suburban lifestyle pursuits such as shopping malls close by (or simply chosen not to live anywhere near anything resembling rural life). The transformation process that occurred over these years can be seen best if one looks at things through retrospectively rather than prospectively; for example: -In those years prior to about 1965 when parishioners began leaving for places like Dallas or Houston due mainly to economic reasons rather than religious ones (the original intent behind moving here being conversion from country living back then), there must have been various sense among many folk hereabouts that something more important than mere convenience lay at hand -namely becoming "Little America" once again; this wasn't just something which folks dreamed about but actually materialized gradually over time as all sorts of tangible benefits accrued both individual/familyILYwise (such as easier access to good schools etc.), collectively insofar as larger communities started bragging about having their own "city" within easy reach - thereby affecting perception on several levels simultaneously - while also gaining greater political clout vis-à-vis nearby towns...thus contributing indirectly yet unmistakably towards growth potential ensuing thereafter It should be noted too that although official growth rates during those pre-'65 years may have seemed very modest by today's standards given certain adjustments made thereto by subsequent forces(euphemistically dubbed "marketing", "urban sprawl"), they were nonetheless significant nevertheless - much more so than anything hitherto experienced within any given county/town/village locale circa 1916 thru '65...inclusive; until then!...sooner rather than later"...
