The history of the Army in Russellville, Arkansas dates back to 1865. The first military presence in this community was a detachment of African American soldiers under the command of General John C. Frémont. After the Civil War, black Americans continued to serve in the Arkansas Confederate Infantry and later in regiments organized as part of Union armies. In 1887, white men from Russellville founded the town’s first bank and began purchasing land for development around it. This started what would becomeRussellville’s long and successful history as an agricultural center. By 1907, the population had grown to over 1,000 people and by 1914, it had reached 3,500. As World War I approached, local businesses supported the war effort by selling food and munitions to troops on both sides of the conflict. In 1918, after Germany announced its intention to enter World War I on their side (a move that angered many Arkansans), Russellville “ mobilized its citizens into one of America” through a citywide boycott of German-owned stores. The boycott helped reduce civilian casualties during World War I while also demonstrating support for Allied causes. After World War I ended and Germany resumed economic activity within her borders, local businesses turned their attention back to commerce within Arkadelphia County instead of supporting German interests abroad. As a result, little evidence remains that African American soldiers served in either military or civil roles during this time period in Russellville; however anecdotal evidence suggests that they may have done so informally or without proper identification papers

Russellville is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–South Little Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named for General Robert E. Lee (1807-1865), one of the Confederate leaders during the American Civil War. Russellville is located on US 64 between Phenix City and Arkadelphia. Russellville was platted in 1871 by Hiram Siskind and Wm. Hite as a post office from which residents took their name from General Robert E. Lee's home county of Virginia where he had been born in 1807. A store and hotel were built in 1870, followed by a schoolhouse in 1875 and an engine house in 1886/87. The first store closed in 1902 because of lack of business; however, it reopened soon after as the first frame building west of Interstate 25 (now I-25) in Russellville! In 1907, there were 796 people living here according to the 1910 census; however, this number increased to 1,811 by 1930 when most of Pulaski County became part of Arkansas statehood via what is now called "the Great Migration." Most Main Street businesses closed during prohibition but reopened shortly thereafter due to demand for alcoholic beverage supplies coming into town from out-of-state customers who could not buy them openly! A local grocery opened up around 1949 that lasted until about 1978; then it closed down again with no explanation given other than "the recession" according to some residents who still remember how much they loved that grocery! In recent years there has been some growth with new businesses opening up such as a modern day bank and restaurant plaza just outside town limits along Ulysses Road which serves up several types of cuisine including Tex Mex etc., but overall things seem pretty static considering all that has changed within such short distances lately...although keep an eye out for That Old Black Dog Cafe across from Walmart if you're looking for something different!

Russellville, Arkansas was founded in 1836 by Major General John C. Frémont and his family. By 1850, Russellville had a population of 2,500 people and was known for its flour mills, cotton plantations, and mechanical engineering products. In 1865, Russellville became the capital of Arkansas after the state's secession from the Union. The town continued to grow until the early 20th century when it lost much of its importance due to railroads and other development factors. Today, Russellville is a small community with a few brick buildings remaining from its earlier days.
The first permanent white settlement in Russellville was in 1821 when Captain John T. Smith and his family settled on the east side of the Arkansas River. In 1827, a mill was built on the river by James Fenton and Henry W. Hogg, Jr., and soon other businesses were established in the town. By 1840, Russellville had a population of 100 people and a school house. In 1845, cotton plantations were established in the area and by 1850, Russellville had an estimated population of 300 people. The growth ofRussellville was halted during the Civil War because many Confederate soldiers away from their homes to fight found refuge in nearby Pulaski County. After the war ended, business boomed as entrepreneurs returned toRussellville to start anew. In 1865, Methodist missionaries began preaching in Russellville and within two years there were over 200 residents living in town. A new courthouse was built in 1870 and by 1880 it had become one ofRussellvilletown's most important institutions with its premiere public square being located at its center. During this time period also came dramatic changes for Russellvilletown with several construction projects including an arena (1872), addition of a library (1875), fire hall (1881), post office annex (1885), wagon road system (1887), electric light system (1900) and industrial expansion which included an unsuccessful attempt to build a dam across the Arkansas River that would have created hydroelectric power potential for village development In 1924, World War II started with Japan invading China but little did anyone know at that point that it would lead to more than 60 years of conflict culminating with Japan's surrender on September 2nd 1945 One major reason why WWII led to such significant change forRussellvilletown is that much like other American cities – such as New York City or Los Angeles – it experienced rapid growth following World War II due largely to military recruitment efforts spearheaded by local businesses seekingto capitalize on wartime production opportunities . This rapid postwar expansion led not onlyto increased housing needs but also smaller streetscapes which became necessary for larger factories moving into formerly rural areas . As these factories took up space vacatedby residents who left for work elsewhere during peacetime, downtown business districts emerged along major thoroughfares such as Main Street , Elk Horn Loop/Hwy 66 & Broadway / Worth Road while residential neighborhoods formed around smaller commercial strips near central squares .
