In 1875, the Arkansas Army was organized and in its early years was composed of militia companies from various counties. In 1881, the army purchased its first cannon, which it named "The Old Brigade." It continued to grow over time and in 1898 it purchased an additional cannon. The army's first regiment was created in 1907 and became known as the 1st Arkansas Infantry Regiment. The 1st Arkansas Infantry Regiment participated in World War I and was disbanded after the war. From 1921 until 1935, the 1st Arkansas Infantry Regiment operated as a rifle battalion within the 2nd Special Forces Group. On November 3rd, 1935, Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) of the 2nd Special Forces Group reactivated at Fort Benning, Georgia under command of Major General James Egan with headquarters at Fort Worth. Russellville, Arkansas is a small town in the southwestern corner of the state of Arkansas. The population was 5,513 at the 2000 census. It is part of Pulaski County. Russellville is a commercial and agricultural center with a population density of 2 people per square mile (0.9/km²). The local economy relies on farming, ranching and manufacturing. The first permanent settler in what would become Russellville was John C Brown in 1872. A post office was established in 1875, but it did not remain open long because the town's founders were unable to get mail service from nearby Little Rock. In 1907, an irrigation ditch was constructed through central Russellville andaughlin providing water for agriculture and stock watering until 1955 when it was discontinued due to budget cuts by the US Department of Agriculture. In 1915, Cecil D Wray built his home at 309 Main Street which remains standing as one of Russellville's most notable landmarks today. Wray was born in Kentucky and immigrated to Arkansas when he was young; he became active in business and politics here before moving to Dallas, Texas where he died in 1951. He is buried there alongside his wife Beatrice who also died young; they are both consideredulsary saints by many religious groups due to their impact on Russellville during their short lifetimes combined. In 1938, J F Winters founded Winters-Roper Farms near the junction of I-40 & AR-471; this led to what would become known as Winters’ Corners Shopping Center which still stands today across from Interstate 40 headquarters east of Highway 71 (exit 303). At that time Arkie Roper operated a grocery store called Herrington’s along with her husband JF Winters’ two barns used for storage orchards next door on AR-471 northwest of downtown Russellville; those barnsstill stand today adjacent to FM 431 south east of downtownRussellville & within walking distance nowof numerous restaurants including China Bistro & Red Lobster restaurant located just off US Hwy 71 exit 303 between Interstate 40 Exit 304A & Exit 305A) . From 1938 until 1984 Justine Ladd opened her popular ice cream parlor called “Nessie” across from JF Winters farmstead on HWY 70 exit 302A about ½ mile northeast OF DowntownRussellville now& continuing southeast into Decatur County

Russellville is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 901 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1881 by J.P. Morgan and named for him, Russell (a Kentucky farm boy). It was incorporated as a city on February 12, 1907. The first post office in Russellville was established on December 7, 1881, and named for J.P. Morgan. It closed on January 6, 1888 due to lack of customers. The next post office open in Russellville was established on May 1, 1886 by order of the Arkansas General Assembly under the name of Washington City (which had been renamed Russellville after J.P.'s father). It served until 1889 when it reopened under the new name of Russellville because it became too difficult to get mail through the mountains around town from West Pulaski County where most people lived Russellville lost its status as a city on October 15, 1907 when it merged with Pine Bluff to form Pulaski County
