The local military detachment, known as the First Arkansas Infantry Regiment, was quickly mustered into service and ordered to garrison Fort Smith. Over time, this unit became known as "The Old Guard." In 1865, the regiment was sent to California for duty in the American Civil War. Upon their return to Arkansas, they were re-mustered into service and stationed at Fort Smith again. In 1868, they were transferred to Camp Chase on the Mississippi River for assignment to duties guarding important river crossings. In 1876, The Old Guard Regiment participated in a Union victory at Battle of Pea Ridge. This event is considered one of the most significant Confederate defeats during the war. Afterward, they were reassigned back to Arkansas and disbanded. Over time, Military Unit No 1 (MU1) has been variously affiliated with various military units throughout its history including: The United States Marines (1946 – present), The Arkansas National Guard (1951 – present), and finally TheRogers Volunteer Fire Department (1984 – present).

She is buried at First Baptist Church Cemetery in Rogers. The town's first school was built in 1881, and it remained open until 1955. The first store opened up on Main Street in 1904. The first post office was established here in 1907. The first cemetery opened up here in 1907. In 1954, Rogers became the site of the United States Air Force Academy Flying Training School (USAF TTS). It remains one of the most important military academies located outside of America today with over 9,000 students studying there each year!

Rogers was a small town in southern Arkansas during the early part of the 20th century. The community was founded in 1907 by H.L. Rogers, who named it for his father, John Rogers. It grew rapidly after the post office moved to Rogers from Pine Bluff in 1914 and the first store opened its doors. The population reached 100 residents by 1920, and increased to over 300 by 1930. By 1940, Rogers had become an important center on the cotton plantation belt around Pine Bluff. The post office closed in 1951, but continued to be used as a station on the Cotton States Railroad until it was discontinued in 1958. The community experienced significant growth following World War II when many local farmers became prosperous due to new irrigation systems developed in nearby Pine Bluff. However, with the rise of commodity prices and other economic challenges during the late 20th century, Rogers declined rapidly. In 2000, its population only amounted to 25 people; however, it remains an important stop on scenic drives through rural southwestern Arkansas
John Rogers was born in 1826 near Rogers, Arkansas. He worked as a farmer and also served in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. After the war, Rogers reopened his farm and continued to propertyown land. In 1870, he married Sarah Hines and they started a family. JohnRogers died in 1902.
