When the town of Rogers was founded in 1907, there were only shotguns and rifles. The first gunsmith in the area set up shop to make firearms for the local farmers. Over time, other gunsmiths and armorers followed, making rifles, shotguns, pistols and other firearm products. One of the earliest guns that appears to have been purchased in Rogers was a Revolver made by Wm. Hargrave & Sons in 1892. This revolver is currently on display at the Rogers Historical Museum. Other early guns include a shotgun made by Aiken & Co., which is still on display at the old post office building; an Old Model Colt revolver dating back to 1873; and an Illinois Rifle model 1860 acquired by Jno. Ladd from a settler in this area in 1916. Assault weapons are typically defined as any weapon that can be used to kill multiple people with one shot—typically including machineguns, cannons and sniper rifles. The first assault rifle ever manufactured was built by Heckler & Koch during World War II specifically for use within Nazi Germany’s military forces.
