Pine Bluff, Arkansas is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–Fayetteville-Bentonville Combined Statistical Area. Pine Bluff was founded by John Sennett in 1881 as a trading post on the Arkansas River. In 1889 it became a city and was renamed Pine Bluff after General Andrew Jackson's home state of Tennessee. In 1907 it merged with neighboring Bentonville to form the larger city of Fayetteville. The name "Pine Bluff" reverted to its original name in 1957 when both cities were combined into one municipality under the umbrella of Fayetteville–Springdale-Rogers County. The first school in Pine Bluff was built in 1881 and named for Colonel James Hays (1784-1861). The present public schools were established in 1906 when they amalgamated with Bentonville and Fayetteville to form one municipality back under their own respective names. There are now twenty schools within PineBluffs boundaries; all but two were established after 1906 thanks to annexation or merger opportunities that arose from various economic development initiatives spearheaded by Mayor Stan Wilkinson during his time as mayor from 2006 until his retirement effective June 30, 2013. It has been reported that since Pine Bluffs incorporation into Fayetteville City Limits there have been only three fires which means every day there are no injuries or property damage caused by fire! Some highlights include models of every American warship built up until 1813 (!), models of HMS Guerriere (the first ironclad ship ever commissioned into service),Original congressional Documents related thereto (such as Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation!), hundreds of photos/ prints featuring historic events/ Sailors & Marines onboard vessels during wartime (& postwar years), rare operational footage from Navy battles lineage (e.g., Nimitz vs Japan), uniforms & insignia worn by Sailors during various periods (& various other locations), plus much more! It is truly amazing what can be collected by simply visiting/ touring/ looking through this wonderful institution! USS George Washington Museum Gift History The USS George Washington Museum was founded on January 20th, 1901 by Secretary John Hay Whitney with one goal: "to perpetuate [the] memory"of America's first president! Founding President Harry S Truman also contributed $5 million towards construction costs back then (!). The museum quickly became recognized for its innovative programming regarding research into Ulysses S Grant’s life and times–including features like Grant’s Tomb & His Lifeboat party!!! Of particular note are items related To Reconstruction EraWashington D C (1881-1893): blueprints for city planning& infrastructure projects; “ cushioned chair model District Building Plan” ; “Walking Tour Guide Booklet For Negroes In Washington D C 1881″; “First Lady Harriet Beecher Stowe Photographed At Senate Office Building With Her Son Alfred” etc.—all illustrating how museums were creating opportunities for people living outside D.C.–including African Americans–to learn about Ulysses S Grant’s story firsthand!! Additionally noteworthy is significant donation made towards renovation project associated with National Mall expansion project ($500K+)––this included installation new roofing system cued with Smithsonian Seal design—in honor OFGeorge Washington himself!!
