When the United States entered World War II, the Arkansas National Guard was mobilized. The unit was initially called the 1st Arkansas Infantry Regiment, but on October 24, 1941 it was redesignated as the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment. The regiment arrived in England on December 11 and participated in the initial landings on Utah Beach on Normandy. On July 8, 1944, when Omaha Beach became known as “The Bloody Promenade” due to heavy casualties sustained by both American and German troops there, Regimental Sergeant Major Johnnie Crouch led his battalion in a charge across that beach which captured an important observation post. In 1945, following the war's end and with no major combat engagements scheduled for Arkansas units until 1946-47, Special Order Number 4 (Eastern Front) was published calling for all state military forces to be activated for service in Germany under the command of General Dwight D. Eisenhower. The order required each unit to report at Pine Bluff for processing and training; however, because of World War II veteran population growth in Arkansas (the official mobilization list only included men over 21 years old), only eleven infantry battalions were actually activated: one battalion from each of the three traditional rifle regiments—1st (Arkansas), 3rd (Montgomery County), 5th (Pine Bluff). Each battalion reported at Pine Bluff on February 12-15 of 1946. The first units ashore were not under general Eisenhower's command but rather those assigned to Third Army Headquarters located at Weimar am Rhein near Frankfurt am Main which had been formed from elements of First Army after its surrender at Vail Pass near Salzburg Austria nine days earlier on April 25. However since these ashore units were considered provisional replacements or part time duty assignments they did not undergo final muster/processing until later that year when their parent formations rejoined Patton's army within Sixth Army headquartered at Saarbrücken Germany until May 15 before being sent back home to rejoin their original regiments once again during June-August 1946 period while still attached to Third Army HQ location at Weimar am Rhein awaiting assignment orders back home finally arriving in Pine Bluff late August 1946 just 10 weeks shy of discharge from military service effective September 4th

Pine Bluff, Arkansas is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock-Arlington metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1881 as a post office called Pine Bluff and named for General James Pine, who led U.S. forces against Mexico in 1846. The first store in town was opened by Wm Hays on July 4, 1881. In 1886, the town's first school was built and the first teacher taught pupils from grades one to Twelve. In 1898, Pine Bluff became the county seat of Pulaski County after it was chosen over nearby Arkadelphia by a vote of its citizens. In 1902, an oil well (later known as Gulf Oil) was drilled in what is now downtown Pine Bluff and production began that year; this made pine bluffs one of the most important boomtowns in Arkansas during this time period because it provided employment for many people and developed infrastructure such as roads and schools. During World War I (), local residents helped with munitions production at nearby Pinemont Arsenal; however they were not considered combatants because they did not fight on the front lines themselves but instead raised money for their country through fundraising events or working odd jobs while their friends fought overseas. André Goudreau served as mayor from 1955 to 1961 when he resigned due to health reasons; military service had already taken its toll on his health so he decided to hand off his mayoral duties to his vice president-elect John Welch until he could fully recover from surgery which caused him great pain throughout his body which limited movement below his waist level only making him able to stand up with assistance some times; André also served consecutively from 1971 until 1977 when he lost an election bid for a third term after being indicted on charges of bribery related to construction projects that were ongoing before he took office Goudreau died suddenly at home on January 22nd 1978 after having been very ill all winter long with pneumonia
In the early days of the American Revolution, the military was a key part of the patriot cause. The Continental Army was founded in 1775 and quickly became one of America's most powerful forces.Over time, however, the army underwent many changes and its role in the revolution changed as well. In 1779, for example, General George Washington ordered that all Continental soldiers be given gifts to commemorate their service.
