It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–South Little Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Mountain Home was W. H. Chappell in 1872. The town was named for Gilead Mountain, about east of the town on which it was founded. In 1896, A. Burch bought land near the present-day intersection of U.S. Highway 62 and State Road 477 and built a sawmill and farmstead there; he also donated money to build a school and provide other services to his community. By 1912, the population of Mountain Home had grown enough that a post office had been established there, and by 1922 both schools were complete with students from all overLittle Rock County as well as neighboring Arkansas towns like Pine Bluff and El Dorado Springs In 1943, during World War II, local farmers took advantage of government land subsidies to grow cotton for use in munitions production; this led to problems when Mexico began producing oil surreptitiously from within Arkansas soil beneath American soil—this event is known as "The Mexican Famine." As a result of this problem (and others related to the war), mountain home residents voted not to participate in Little Rock's municipal annexation into city limits during 1944-1945; instead they formed their own little village called Two Rivers which prospered until 1958 when its boundaries were changed again following annexation by North Little Rock Since then, much has happened within the bounds of Mountain Home; among these are two high school reunion weekends each summer that drew nearly 100 people together since 2001; an annual golf tournament organized bythe Mountain Home Lions Club (a non-profit organization); construction on a new library/community center block grant from the state government which opened in 2007; and plans for an arts district including performance spaces at several local businesses called Arkadelphia Arts Districts which are scheduled to open next year What makes MountainHome unique is not just its location but also its history: The citizens have taken great pride in preserving their community's culture while working hard everyday towards progressiveness through education, economy development & service provision

It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1894 by Myron and Lillie Westfall as a small farmstead on the edge of a high mountain range. By 1907, the Walfords had built a large frame house on the hill overlooking their land that served as the town's first courthouse and post office. Mountain Home grew rapidly after World War II when residents relocated to nearby towns such as Conway andsalon for job opportunities in postwar America. In 2000, Mountain Home became an incorporated municipality with full city status. In 2002, however, it reverted back to its original rural character with few changes to its government until 2014 when it passed a resolution admitting transgender citizens into its municipal government for the first time ever. The ordinance repealed an earlier amendment which banned transgender people from residing within the municipality limits due to lack of support from local businesses and individuals who felt that this policy would discriminate against transgender residents. Today, Mountain Home is known for its rich historical roots and cultural diversity as well as its wide array of outdoor activities including hiking, fishing, bird watching, camping and skiing; all while still retaining some of its pioneer values like self-reliance and hard work ethic.

In 1912, Mountain Home became an annexe of Little Rock and continued to grow until it reached its current size of almost 30,000 residents in 1970.
