Maumelle is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock– wasted area. Maumelle has a post office with ZIP code 86260. The township was organized on February 14, 1881, from parts of Pinkney and Benton counties. In 1905 it became a county municipality; in 1907 it became a city. Maumelle was named for American General James Fenton Maumette (1822-92). According to the 2010 census, the population of Maumelle was 953 people. The racial makeup of the town was 97% white, 1% black or African American, and 1% Native American or Alaska Native; 2% were other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race made up 3% of the population. There are two institutions which have been in operation continuously in Maumelle since its incorporation as a city: The Municipal Building and Courthouse which are both located on Main Street next to City Hall; and First Baptist Church which is located off North Main Street across from City Hall on what once was called Agricultural land but now houses public housing developments including Parkwood projects and Eastpark projects
