Wistar's brother-in-law James Phillips built the first log cabin on present day Highway 24 near present day Schoolhouse Road. The first post office in Maumelle was established on December 12, 1846 by Jno. Burt and Samuel Ketcham. The name of the post office changed to Maumelle on November 1, 1852. A store and hotel were built in downtown Maumelle by John Duren in 1875 and 1876 respectively as a result of his land purchase from David Whitehead for $100+. In 1907 Jno Duren'meantained his store open until it burned down on November 15th during a severe cold spell that impacted much of Arkansas including Maumelle . After that time he closed up shop and sold all his property to A C Butler who operated what became known as Butler Mercantile Store until it closed its doors in 1949 when Mechanic Supply Company moved into the building which remains today as Mrs Vernon Butler s Supermarket

Maumelle was founded in 1871 by James and Clarissa Maumelle. The Maumelle family had come to Arkansas from Missouri the previous year. James did some early agricultural work, while Clarissa worked as a housekeeper and later as a schoolteacher. In 1882, the Maumelles erected a two-story log cabin on the banks of the White River. They named their home "Maumelle" after their hometown in France. The family continued to live there until 1924, when they sold it and moved to Little Rock. The town of Maumelle was platted in 1907 by Gertrude Auld and her husband, Lafayette Auld. The first store was built in 1908 by J.W. Hardwick and his wife, Jessie Hardwick. The town grew rapidly during World War I; shipments of munitions arriving at Maumelle increased from $5,000 in 1914 to $30,000 in 1918. After the war ended, business slowed but never stopped; in 1925, the Aulds opened another store called "The General Store". In 1923, Wilfred Koreniss bought land north of town for what would become known as Koreniss Park; he developed it into an open-air shopping mall that still exists today (though it is used mostly for events). Of note also are three small churches located near Koreniss Park: First Baptist Church (built 1921), Southwest Baptist Church (1924), and Second Baptist Church (1925). All three were destroyed by fire in 2004 but have since been rebuilt with new architecture. North of Koreniss Park is one small cemetery - Crossroads Cemetery - which contains remains of local residents dating back to before Maumelle even existed
In 1871, the town of Maumelle was founded by a group of settlers who had traveled from nearby Lafayette. The town grew rapidly and soon became an important center in the Arkansas Territory. As a result, the government vested importance in Maumelle and its people. In 1875, Governor John H. Smith designated Maumelle as the capital of the new territory. The years following were tumultuous for Maumelle due to events such as the Indian Wars and the Great Famine. However, through hard work and determination,Maumelle emerged as one of the most prosperous towns in Arkansas. In 1906, Maumelle was renamed honorously for General James Mott during World War I when it became clear that Lafayette would not be able to provide troops to fight on account of its lack of supplies. Since then, much has changed for Maumelle - including intense development around town spurred by TOURISM and industrial growth throughout neighboring counties. Despite this transformation however, many aspects of life remain unchanged; such as small-town atmosphere and a strong sense of community spirit which is still evident today despite all that has changedover time.
